Test and Validation engineer - Li-ion Battery Cell Development

Northvolt is now looking for Test Engineers to be part of our growing battery Materials and Cell Validation team. Reporting to the Director of Materials and Cell Validation you will be responsible for Evaluation and Analysis of cell development for the worlds greenest and most sustainable of Li-ion battery cells.

With a thorough understanding and experiences with testing of battery cell you will be an integral part in the testing, verification and qualification of new generation of Li-ion battery cells. You will be part of a successful iterative development work towards the highest yield rate for the production and optimization of material characteristics. Validation team develops and performs tests on battery cells and components (cathode material, anode material, electrolyte, separators etc.) along with preparation, production and testing of different form factors (coin cells, pouch cells etc.).

You will be responsible for the project deliveries and report to both internal and external steering committees for the projects. You will also work with a broad perspective from high level prerequisites and concept development in the early phases to the later project phases managing planning, development and delivery.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, direct and follow up on project related testing activities
  • Ensure delivery of the project activities
  • Perform and develop tests together with the team
  • To execute from electrode production to cell testing
  • Help the team to perform and innovate
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between customers and Northvolt's internal stakeholders

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • MSc or PhD degree within relevant field or comparable work experience
  • More than 3 years experience from development and testing of secondary batteries, lithium-ion based technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills as you will be in constant interaction with international customers and team members from both the technical and business development side
  • Proven results in meeting customer requirements and expectations
  • Recognize the risk of cell/battery development and production
  • Experience in battery material formulation, synthesis, production, characterisation and electrochemical evaluation
  • Worked with physical/chemical analysis and spectroscopic analysis of materials
  • Knowledgeable and has practiced electrode and cell design, electrode preparation process, cell fabrication and electrochemical performance evaluation

Specific Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, Japanese is highly evaluated, and Korean a big plus
  • Ability to work under high pressure with tight deadlines
  • Strong organization skills and used to manage a range of activities simultaneously
  • Experience from start-up environment is a plus
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently
