We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager for piping and mechanical installation to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent Cathode Active Material team based in Skellefteå, Sweden. By joining us, you will be a key player in ramping up our Cathode Active Material department and contribute to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

About the job:
The Construction Manager leads a team to supervise the construction activities assigned to third party contractors, and ensures compliance with schedule, costs, quality, health, safety, and environmental protection requirements.

Specifically for Process Piping & Mechanical, the Senior Construction Engineer shall oversee the installation and pre-commissioning of mechanical and associated piping systems to produce Cathode Active Materials, Wastewater Treatment, and utilities distribution. Both Modularized and Stick-built construction strategies are applicable.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and updating construction schedules that meet Northvolt's project objectives.
  • Ensuring the most suitable solutions in terms of assembly sequences, works scheduling,
    constructability, feasibility, etc..

  • Coordinating the site activities of contractors including interfaces with other ongoing
    projects and departments within Northvolt Ett site.

  • Checking construction progress weekly, identifying any critical aspects and requesting the necessary actions from the Contractor concerned (including for pre-fabrication shops)

  • Checking the adequacy of personnel and equipment belonging to the contractors, promoting any actions required to achieve objectives

  • Interfacing with Northvolt Proprietary/Main Equipment vendors, including reviewing their
    documentation and deliveries for compliance as well as installation and integration at site. If
    necessary, participate/support in FATs (Factory Acceptance Test) as well as SATs (Site
    Acceptance Test)

  • Verifying that works are correctly carried out, in accordance with project documentation,
    notifying Engineering of problems encountered in the field and contribute to the

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have:

  • 8 years of experience in industrial construction projects involving:
    – Process Piping Design
    – Material Selection and Specification
    – Equipment Installation and Integration
    – Piping Fabrication, Welding and Installation
    – Quality Control and Inspection
  • Familiarity with Pressure Equipment Directive (2014/68/EU)
  • Familiarity with best practices for Oxygen, Steam, and other gas piping
  • Familiarity with ASME standards such as
    – B31-3 (Process Piping) and B31-8 (Gas Piping Systems)
    – Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (section VII and VIII)
  • Familiarity with European Norms for Metallic Industrial piping such as:
    – SS-EN-13480-1
    – SS-EN-13480-4
    – SS-EN-13480-5
  • Familiarity with API Standards such as
    – API 5L (Specification for line pipe)
    – API 610 (Centrifugal pumps)
    – API 650 (Welded tanks)
  • Familiarity with best practices for duplex piping materials
  • Knowledgeable about Mechanical LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out)

Certifications:

  • Driver's License class B valid in Sweden/EU
  • Welding Inspection
  • BAM (Bättre Arbetsmiljö) and BAS-P/U course highly valued
  • Heta Arbeten Permit Issuer (hot works loss prevention) course highly valued
  • Work at height, MEWP, safe lifting, and Scaffold <9m training certifications highly valued

Other valuable (but not required):

  • Familiarity with AB04 (general conditions of contract for building & civil engineering works & building services)
  • Familiarity with ABT06 (general conditions of contract for design & construct contracts for building, civil engineering, and installation works)
  • Familiarity with Sweden’s Arbetsmiljöverket Laws and Provisions applicable to construction projects
  • Familiarity with the applicable AMA codes, SSG standards and BBR (Boverkets Byggregler) building regulations

Language Skills:

  • English proficiency mandatory
  • Swedish proficiency highly valued
  • Proficiency with the language of Contractor workforce highly valued as well.

Computer Literacy:

  • MS Office
  • MS Project or other Planning/Scheduling software highly valued
