Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a CE Engineering Expert to join our passionate team in Västerås/Stockholm.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

The CE Engineering Expert will be in charge of CE marking of all Nortvolt assests and buildings. You will be in charge of setting up and executing the CE strategy and plan, initially reporting into the Factory Process organisation and later on being a key leader in the maintenance/asset management organisation.

The CE Engineering Expert is responsible for co-ordinating all CE activities internally as well as with external suppliers, engineering integrators, counsils etc. You should have a solid engineering background and in depth knowledge from equipment design phase through to commissioning new equipment.

You will be working intimately with the process engineering and construction teams and the equipment suppliers, mainly located in Japan. Some travel to suppliers will be required to review progress on CE marking and to oversee testing and evaluation.

In general you have a long experience from CE marking of equipment and machinery and have been driving large and challenging asset projects with high demands on CE marking and safety functionality. Preferably you have experience from building machinery and delivering equipment with CE marking as your responsibility.

Specifically, you have a deep understanding and knowledge of the EU directives, the CE marking process and requirements for compliance:

  • 2006/42/EC Machinery directive (MD) According to harmonized standards EN ISO 12100:2010 and EN 60204.
  • 2014/68/EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) ​According to harmonized standard SS-EN 13445
  • 2014/35/EU Low Voltage Directive (LVD) According to harmonized standard EN 60204
  • 2014/30/EU Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) According to SS-EN 60204
  • 2014/34/EU Equipment for explosive atmospheres (ATEX)

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute the CE strategy for Northvolt factories
  • Detailed planning of CE activities including RACI in the factory projects
  • Review and approve supplier CE activity plans
  • Review and approve equipment regarding CE marking
  • Support, guide and educate suppliers in EU directives and CE marking
  • Responsible for full CE marking of all Northvolt assets
  • Long term also asset management and maintenance responsibility

Skills & Requirements


  • BSc or MSc in mechanical engineering/chemical engineering or similar
  • 5-10+ years working experience in asset management and CE marking
  • Formal CE marking training, including the machinery and pressure equipment directives
  • Formal ATEX training
  • Track record of successul asset project achievements
  • Successful track record of scaling manufacturing assets in a fast growing environment ideally in the food, paper, steel or pharma industry
  • Curious, technically educated and with a strong business background
  • Must have worked in multi-cultural environment
  • Experience and interest in manufacturing industry

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
