Northvolt has exciting job offers for a Process Engineer to join our bold project team in Northvolt’s cutting edge innovation centre, LABS, in Västerås, Sweden.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in designing the next state of the art factories for Northvolt as part of the inspiring mission to revolutionise energy storage manufacturing for a greener future

The Process Engineer will be the main contact for process development and concept design of electrode processes. Including the detailed engineering, commissioning, and factory validation testing.

This role will allow you to take your current understanding of the equipment and process and utilize it to pave the way for future upgrades and smoother commissioning process.

The Design Process Engineer role requires a deep understanding of the electrode manufacturing processes, ability to collaborate with multiple different teams and personalities, time management skills, design experience, commissioning experience, organizational skills, problem solving skills and willingness to step into commissioning when needed.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and issue process designs
  • Lead process development projects
  • Provide technical support in commissioning

  • Train new process engineers

  • Provide feedback and guidance to suppliers to ensure equipment quality, technical specifications and CE standards are met

  • Deliver detailed engineering design from concept to site acceptance testing for slurry mixing and coating
  • HAZOP completion
  • Translate lessons learned during commissioning into design upgrades for expansion

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • BSc or MSc degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience within design and engineering related fields
  • Familiar with QA troubleshooting tools
  • Successful track record of leading process improvement projects in a production factory
  • Experience from scaling production in a fast-growing environment ideally in the Battery, Food, Pharma, Paper & Pulp, Semiconductor, Electrochemical or similar industry
  • Curious, technically educated, and preferably with a strong business background problem solving background
  • Experience and interest in design and commissioning

Specific Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus
  • Highly organized and result-driven
