We are looking for a passionate Design Manager to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future.
You will be part of the Project Engineering team that will drive the construction of our new battery factory in Heide, Germany. Built in multiple phases over 5+ years the factory represents a multi-billion Euro investment project. Together with your colleagues from the Program team you will be accountable to lead internal and external teams cross-functionally to deliver on company targets and in line with customer expectations.
About the job
Responsible for managing the coordinated multi-discipline design of a Northvolt sub-project from detailed design, As Built and final handover to the Northvolt Drei (NV3) Operations and Maintenance depts.
About the team
You will be expected to manage a project team of up to 10 engineers, based on site in Heide. Your project team will be expected to provide the technical expertise to challenge and optimise the design of the sub-project. As a leader of this project team, you will be expected to bring structure, drive consistency in project execution and provide guidance.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing the Northvolt sub-project design team to follow the project execution plan.
- Managing the Northvolt design input to external design parties by interfacing with internal Northvolt stakeholders.
- Managing the external design parties, tracking progress and flagging any threats to the delivery.
- Managing the Northvolt design reviews and modelling.

Managing sub-project design change.

Driving value engineering in the sub-project.

Skills & Requirements
We believe that you have :
- A BSc or MSc in Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control or Industrial Engineering
- 5+ years working experience in the design of heavy industrial, advanced manufacturing or chemical process facilities.
- Excellent English written and oral skills
- Track record of successful management of a small project team and project planning
Bonus points for:
- Chartered or Professional Engineer or MBA
- Experience and interest in advanced manufacturing industry
- Experience in commissioning, start-up and hand over of industrial facilities.
- Fluency in other languages (German, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, French)
- Experience from a multi-cultural environment
