We are looking for a dedicated Forward Deployed Software Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our passionate Forward Deployed Engineering team.
By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing a new, scalable factory digitalization function and contribute to building the next large-scale European battery factories.
About the job
We have invested significant effort in developing one of the most sophisticated manufacturing execution systems (MES) for battery manufacturing - completely in-house. We aim to deploy & customize this system for each new factory and manufacturing setup on Northvolt's roadmap. We are now looking for driven software engineers to be responsible for system setup, equipment integration design, configuration, deployment, testing and validation of our MES system for our new factories & production lines to come.
You will be working in a project team which are responsible for deliver our digitalization offering to our manufacturing facilities. You will work closely with the MES development engineers, platform engineers and our equipment suppliers to ensure we're able to setup and integrate Northvolt MES efficiently.
About the team
As Northvolt Ett is under ramp-up - we are newly establishing this team to prepare for all upcoming factory projects and ensure the solutions we deploy are functioning as expected. On a daily basis, you will be working with our technical project managers, product managers behind the individual solutions and the project managers leading a new factory delivery.
Forward Deployed Engineering Team will consist of software engineers who have a deep understanding of machine-to-MES architecture, production processes, and production needs. They are able to deploy and validate machine specific MES solutions and work closely with the suppliers, customer site and rest of digitalization.
Forward Deployed Software Engineer's will be responsible to enable Northvolt’s MES Core components to new manufacturing lines
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- System and integration design
- MES component configuration & deployment
- Digital commissioning - testing & validation
- Software testing tools development

Skills & Requirements
We believe that you have :
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- A couple of yours of experience as a software engineer, preferably in a forward deployed or integration-focused role.
- Expertise in designing and developing software solutions, with a focus on system integration.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g. Golang, Python, Java, C++) and experience with software development frameworks.
- Experience working with cloud solutions (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP etc)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical challenges.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Bonus points for:
- Knowledge of battery manufacturing processes and related equipment integration is a plus.
- Understanding of manufacturing execution systems (MES) and related technologies.
- Fluency in other languages (Japanese, Swedish, Chinese)
- Experience from a multi-cultural environment
