Do you want to be part of our most ambitious project, a friendly multiplayer world for children celebrating the excitement and quirkiness of everyday life?
As an Animation Engineer at Toca Days, you’ll be the first dedicated engineer in this position, and will be able to shape how we work with animation from a technical point of view. You will help our team to create a fun social multiplayer game without an open chat, and where animation plays a huge role in that.
On top of that, this is our first third-person 3D game, so we need someone who can work with our designers and animators to build solid animation systems, and make it easy for our creatives to implement and iterate on their work in-engine.
Self-Expression is at the core of our social gameplay. Animation and animation systems need to be easy to work with and produce, so we can minimize implementation efforts. This role will help fulfill this need.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll create animation systems and solutions that let kids communicate and play online, like implementing co-op emotes like high fives; setting up context aware locomotion systems that is easy for non-coders to tweak; implementing context aware systems for other means of traversal, like swimming, or riding skateboards or wheelchairs, etc.
You’ll collaborate with designers and animators to find the best real solution for their hopes and dreams, such as design state machines and blend trees and runtime animation retargeting.
You’ll build all these systems with the long game in mind; we are hoping that this game will live and be maintained for a long time, and will soon transition to being a live service.
You’ll share best practices with the team and spread general knowledge of animation systems and programming.
Is this you?
You’ve worked in a similar position and have shipped a couple of 3D and multiplayer games before.
You’ve a strong understanding and experience of animation tools and techniques.
You’ve interest in coaching, knowledge sharing and mentoring.
