We are looking for a dedicated mechanical rotating and static equipment engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent CAM team based in Skelleftea. By joining us, you will be a key player in contributing to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

Responsible for mechanical rotating and static equipment engineering support at Northvolt’s upcoming giga-scale world class Battery Active Materials factory in Skellefteå, Sweden. Executing as EPC(m) project through partnership with top-tier international engineering contractors

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  • Supporting the mechanical design and development of rotating and static equipment, packages and systems as part of an EPC(m) owner’s project team. Act as Northvolt representative in Mechanical Engineering towards the EPCm engineering contractor and other Stakeholders, internal and external,
  • Reviewing and assessing mechanical engineering work by the Engineering Contractor such as specification and datasheet deliverables, ensuring design is safe, functional, and cost-effective,
  • Reviewing and verifying engineering documentation from equipment vendors meets Northvolt’s & engineering contractors’ specifications,
  • Evaluating change proposals from own discipline, from cost, schedule, constructability and HSE perspective,
  • Managing the resolution and closure of technical issues within your discipline, and coordinating the input from other discipline leads through the detailed design phase,
  • Providing input and reviewing of ITP/QC requirements for vendor packages,
  • Providing on site support to Project Construction team(s) for field engineering issues, driving issues to close with support of the Mechanical Design Manager and Engineering Contractor,
  • Supporting 3rd
    party (NoBo) inspections,
  • Attending design reviews, fabrication inspection meetings, FATs as required,
  • Support the Mechanical Design Lead in Handover of the mechanical design documentation to the Maintenance and Operations Team.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications/education/experience

  • Mechanical Engineering degree, MSc, BSc (hons) or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in similar roles, high familiarity with design of rotating equipment such as compressors, pumps, fans, blowers, packaged equipment.

  • Experience in supporting other project functions with input, including estimating, scheduling, HSE risk assessments, model reviews, and constructability reviews.

  • Previous experience with large-scale greenfield projects, particularly in the Battery Materials or Oil & Gas industries, is strongly desirable but not essential.

  • Familiarity with Swedish and European laws, regulations and standards is strongly desirable but not essential.

  • Experience in pCAM and/or CAM manufacturing and equipment selection is a plus.

  • Fluent in English, ability to speak the Swedish language is a plus.

  • Open to frequent travel for collaboration with the engineering contractor (U.K. based), and equipment vendors.
