About us
Southern Lights is a climate tech startup that is developing an innovative web-based software for creating green energy projects. Our mission is to help replace fossil fuels in heavy industry by enabling green hydrogen at scale. We empower energy developers to efficiently assess green hydrogen projects, with our powerful Software-as-a-Service tool. That way our clients can create successful clean energy projects that will reduce carbon emissions on a global scale.
Founded in 2022, Southern Lights is a growing startup with a talented and dedicated team of professionals. The founders, Felipe, Anton and Gustav have worked passionately since product launch (Feb 2023) to bring their vision to life and help their global customers to succeed. We are headquartered at KTH Innovation in Stockholm, Sweden.
The role
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated engineer with expertise in systems and process modeling, with an interest in green hydrogen and Power-to-X processes to become Energy Modeler at Southern Lights. As Energy Modeler you will be responsible for producing the energy models at the core base of our software product under the guidance of our Head of Product and with the support of leading experts in the field.
Your responsibilities

Develop energy models for electrolytic hydrogen and Power-to-X production and distribution processes at sub-component level, using Python, optimization algorithms for sizing and dispatch based on Operations Research techniques.

Working as a part of our tech team to integrate the core energy models into our software platform.

Stay up-to-date with the latest research and technologies related to green hydrogen, green Haber Bosch and Power-to-X process.

Contribute to the technical direction of our products.
Skills & Requirements
Your skills
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in energy systems modeling and optimization, as well as middle level proficiency in Python. You should also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and be able to work independently as well as in a team.

Experience in energy systems modeling and optimization.

Experience in Python - We understand you are not a software developer but you should know how to program and build basic routines.

Interest or background in Operations Research techniques including optimal sizing and optimal dispatch would be a plus.

Knowledge or proficency on libraries such as Pandas, Pyomo, Scipy would be a plus.

About the company
Southern Lights is currently supported by KTH Innovation and part of a batch in the Pre-incubator program. The KTH Innovation Pre-incubator program is a 12 month program to accelerate the development of promising startup projects from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Startup projects receive extensive support from inhouse Business Development Coaches as well as additional support such as office space, community activities, team development support, IP and legal counseling, access to industry, mentor and investor networks.
