Electrical Engineer Specialist - Power System Calculation

Northvolt has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer specialised in electrical power system calculations to join our growing engineering team and support the construction of our various factories throughout the world. In joining us you will play an important role in building some of the first large scale European battery factories and in the transition to a carbon-free society.As an engineer specializing in power system calculations, you will be reporting to the Group Electrical Design Manager and will develop and optimize the electrical system architecture for the various sites under development by Northvolt

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Modelling under the ETAP software the internal electrical distribution networks to carry out the electrical studies associated with a project as well as the corresponding calculation notes,

  • Power system calculations and associated reports: load distribution and voltage profile, short-circuit, motor starting, cable calculations, harmonics, dynamic studies, arc flash, discrimination and protection settings,

  • Development and/or validation of the HTB-HTA-LV protection schemes implemented throughout our distribution systems,

  • Analyse the requirements of the system operator (Grid Code) to carry out HTB / HTA connection studies and coordinate the technical requirements with the Electrical Design Managers

  • Prepare terms of reference and/or analyse offers for subcontracted power system simulation services.

  • Prepare and/or review electrical load schedules to design the internal electrical distribution system and size the electrical equipment.

  • Create and/or reviewing of SLDs, schematics, electrical design specifications and associated typical drawings.

  • Review power system calculations and various single line diagrams and schematics prepared by subcontractors during the detailed execution phase

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

Bachelors or Master’s in Electrical engineering
• Minimum of 4 years experience in electrical design/engineering for heavy industrial, manufacturing or process facilities such as pharmaceutical, data centres, oil & gas, automotive, food & beverage manufacturing, etc.
• Good theoretical basis for electrical calculations (sizing of cables, transformers, PFC, motor starting, load studies, load flows, short circuit calculations, harmonic studies and earth grid designs)
• Preference if prior minimum experience using power systems simulation software such as ETAP, Powerfactory, MATLAB power system toolbox etc.
• Fluency in English. Valuable (but not required) if fluency in other languages
• Computer literacy (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project)
