Qualification of Surface Coating Quality on Cathode Active Material for Li-ion Battery Application
We are looking for a driven student to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future by writing the thesis for our passionate Cathode Development team based in Västerås R&D Labs.
Cathode active material (CAM) is one of the key components that drives Li-ion battery performance. Northvolt CAM development team focus on the next generation chemistry including high-nickel composition. High-nickel cathode material often have fast performance degradation mainly due to active side reaction at the interface. Surface/interface coating technology is one of the challenges to mitigate such reaction, where clear physicochemical understanding of uniformity of coating is highly necessary, in order to optimize battery performance.
Investigate how surface modification influence the battery performance can be assessed and monitored on the different conditions in a systematic manner and develop a tool to quantify or qualify the coated surface/interface structures by analytical techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
You will be based in CAM R&D labs located in Vasteras and you will have the opportunity to participate our work on topics related to the thesis subject. Thereby, you will also gain insight and experience of the everyday work in CAM R&D life, pursuing for the greener energy.
