Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.
Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, get plugged into the right networks, and get to understand market nuances.
Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startup while being paid.
Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup after the experience.

Startup Partner:Umba
Umba is an African digital bank that provides free bank accounts and financial services to customers. Their mission is to make banking free and accessible across Africa, giving their customers the power to manage their finances by making financial services affordable, efficient, and widely available.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Umba is rapidly expanding into Mexico, Nigeria, and Kenya. They launched in Nigeria and are quickly entering new markets.
Engagement Description
Umba is looking to hire a sales leader to drive net customer growth in Nigeria. You should have experience designing and implementing sales strategies that generate revenue, and be comfortable with key sales tasks such as negotiating partnerships, managing people, implementing processes, and executing the company vision. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing a robust partner ecosystem to provide value to customers and business partners.
Post the 3-month engagement through VFA, this role will evolve into a Head of Sales role.
Some of the key responsibilities you'll be tasked with include to:
Build and execute the overall go-to-market sales and partnership strategy, including the identification and development of new partnerships and strategic alliance opportunities
Lead the sourcing, negotiating, signing, and launching of commercial and partnership deals
Analyze existing and new business opportunities, developing a thorough understanding of market conditions, product requirements, demand for products, and resource requirements to properly support business goals
Own end-to-end relationships with partners and maintain senior executive-level relationships
Optimize lead-to-close rate by taking a hands-on approach to every stage of the sales cycle, from prospecting and demoing to closing
Design and refine existing inbound and outbound sales practices and tools to create repeatable, scalable sales processes that accelerate growth quickly
