Data Scientist - Battery Intelligence

We are looking for a Data Scientist with expertise in batteries to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. You will be a part of our Battery Intelligence Team at our HQ's in Stockholm.
Within Northvolt, our labs, batteries and factories are producing large amounts of data which gets captured in our cloud platforms, processed and organized. Working within the Battery Intelligence Team, we will together use this data from various stages of the battery life cycle to understand, monitor and predict battery health & performance across the fleet of connected batteries and develop state-of-the art machine learning solutions. We use technology and data with the goal to build the smartest and greenest battery.
About the job
We are looking for a passionate problem-solver with a knack for data and batteries to help us build the best models to understand battery health and performance, for us and for our customers.
Example of use cases are: models to help us understand and predict battery aging, connect battery health to usage patterns to understand drivers of aging, as well as detection of anomalies in our battery systems in customer operation.
You will leverage your prior knowledge of batteries and data-driven methods to help us build better models to estimate internal battery states.
You will develop these solutions together with our team of data scientists and collaborate with software engineers to turn them into scalable systems.
Your contribution will allow us to better deliver relevant insights about battery performance and life to our customers and internal data users.
About the team
You will be embedded in a team of Data Scientists and work with teams across Northvolt to help us get the most from our data.
Our team's goal is to use the data we collect across Northvolt and from our battery systems in the field to generate added-value insights about battery performance and life.
We analyze large time series datasets to estimate battery aging remotely, predict aging into the future and analyze relationships and influencing factors between battery usage and aging.

Skills & Requirements
- Master's Degree, PhD or other relevant background for the ML and Data Science discipline which has given you a good foundation to do development work within this area
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience developing and/or deploying advanced analytics or machine learning solutions in a professional setting

Experience in working with batteries and battery data, knowledge of internal battery dynamics

Strong knowledge in working with time series data in Python (eg pandas, polars, pyspark or equivalent)

Excellent understanding of Data Science fundamentals

Strong knowledge in creating visualizations in python (matplotlib, plotly, seaborn etc) that communicate insights effectively
- Good knowledge of SQL to query large datasets

Good understanding of software engineering basics (version control, testing)

Ability to structure insights and support recommendations with logical arguments and data

Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders from all levels of the organization
Bonus points
- Knowledge in developing battery models (ECM, DFN, SPM; using custom code or tools like PyBAMM)
- Knowing how to apply ML or data-driven methods for battery state estimation or control systems
- Experience in deploying models to production (using frameworks, schedulers, containers)
- Knowledge working with AWS or another cloud provider
- Knowledge of DBT to build analytical models in SQL
