Startup Partner:Jetstream
Jetstream is a technology-enabled logistics company that aims to give businesses in emerging markets more control over their global supply chains.
Jetstream is powered by a network of freight carriers, customs agents and ground transporters that combine technology and on-the-ground know-how to move B2B shipments between global markets and the African continent.
Acting as a vertical broker between the fragmented and often-hidden segments of supply chains in Africa, the company makes cross-border commerce faster and more transparent for African businesses.
Engagement Description
Jetstream’s Financial Services unit is looking for a CEO who will manage the development and expansion of the company’s trade finance program.
You should have a strong understanding of international trade and the common issues that businesses confront when operating globally, such as political and economic risks, currency issues and cultural differences. Experience working in foreign countries or with companies engaged in international trade will be valuable in this role.
Post the 3-month engagement through VFA, this role will evolve into a CEO role for Jetstream Financial Services
Some of the key responsibilities you'll be saddled with include to:
Lead the development, implementation and management of Jetstream Trade Finance, expanding the program to reach a broader range of qualified business borrowers
Provide the overall leadership, vision, and direction for risk management, refining and implementing the risk management framework with appropriate tools for the measurement, reporting and control of financial and non-financial risks
Work closely with internal stakeholders including Product Management, Legal, Compliance, and Sales teams in developing or reengineering innovative product offerings, taking into consideration any major technical and regulatory requirements
Gather market intelligence on a continuous basis and leverage the information to ensure the Trade Finance arm of the business remains competitive from a pricing and product perspective.
Collaborate with Jetstream’s commercial and partnerships teams to drive new client sourcing, onboarding and management
Reports to: CEO, Jetstream
Ability to lead and exercise authority through expertise, and experience, showing both strategic and operational understanding of the business model
Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance or a related field; Masters in Business Administration is a plus.
Proven experience in marketing and/or managing trade and project finance products. You should be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of selling and/or designing structured trade finance products;
Strong understanding of statistics and quantitative data analysis methods and an understanding of different risk management-related tools.
Strong understanding of banking processes and operations
Excellent customer service, negotiation, problem-solving, communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work and effectively communicate with diverse business partners;
Excellent business judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills;
Willingness to spend >25% of your time on the ground in Jetstream’s target markets in Africa
