Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, get plugged into the right networks, and get to understand market nuances.

Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startup while being paid a stipend.

Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup after the experience.

Startup Partner:Sukhiba
SUKHIBA is a venture-backed community commerce platform with a mission to get the next billion users to start shopping online. Sukhiba is building a group purchasing platform to enable Africans to buy, invest and save together.
They do this by directly connecting local sellers, manufacturers, and farmers to consumer communities. They are currently focused on getting the next million users living in tier 2 and 3 communities in Kenya and India to “buy together and save together”.
These users are primarily mobile-first, social and shop with their community (the ubiquitous food chamas of Kenya).
Engagement Description
Sukhiba is looking for an individual with a background and skills in product management who is passionate about building products.
You should be comfortable with using data-driven methods and be able to support a product team by conducting market research, gathering quantitative product data, and analyzing customer research to help senior product managers work more efficiently and effectively.
Ultimately you will be tasked with key responsibilities like gathering product requirements and providing credible data-backed insights on how to improve the overall user experience of a product, and the efficiency of a product-led growth business.
Some of the deliverables you'll be tasked with include to:
- Support the Product Management team through product discovery and concept phases to establish product requirements, key performance indicators, and more
- Identify opportunities to automate the Product Management team’s responsibilities and related tasks to help drive consistency and efficiency.
- Seek to improve product execution via contributions to product processes, product development flows and product timelines
- Improve how the team collects, analyzes and acts on feedback from internal and external stakeholders and customers.
- Facilitate user interviews and other market research
- Oversee quality assurance checks on new features
Reports to: Founders
Skills & Requirements
- 2+ years experience in one or more of the following areas: Product Management, Product Operations Management, Management Consulting, Strategy, Program Management, Customer Experience, or equivalent Voice of Customer role.
- Experience with consumer-facing internet websites, especially related to e-commerce
- Experience in gathering business insights and identifying trends from data, including combining data from multiple sources.
- Experience influencing stakeholders with data.
- Experience synthesizing and presenting complex information to senior leadership in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work with ambiguity and be flexible/nimble.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Cross-functional collaboration and negotiation skills.
