We are looking for a driven Vision Test Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our Northvolt Systems Test, Measurements and Instrumentation team based in Stockholm, Sweden. By joining us, you will play a key role in creating world-class testing of battery modules, developing automated test stations and prototype testing equipment.
About the job
A key member of the Test & Measurement team, the Vision Test Engineer will develop high accuracy and precision imaging-based automated quality inspections and measurements, sorting, and robotic guidance applications.
Working closely with the Process Engineering and Automations & Controls team, the Vision Test Engineer will help to establish test equipment capable of providing quality measurements and inspections. Starting from hardware selection and machine design through to software programming, commissioning and ramp-up, the Vision Test Engineer will develop test equipment and processes used in prototype and high-speed mass production environment.
About the team
We are continuously building a team of both experienced technicians and engineers and great leaders with deep technical background. You will be joining a growing team of specialists in mechanical, electrical and vision tests, based in Stockholm, Sweden. Our goal is to develop multi-disciplinary tests of battery cells, modules and packs from prototype stage to mass production. We start from the physics of the measurements, to the selection of components, sensors and instruments, and build these systems into low-vibration, low-noise, and interference-free platforms capable of the high-speed measurements required in mass production.
You will be responsible for creating a vision for world class testing of battery modules, from prototyping to mass production.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with the Design, Process and Quality teams to define and specify manufacturing vision tests and processes
- Supporting the execution of DOEs to optimize testing accuracy, precision and improve production output
- Drafting test specifications, procedures, selecting components and sensors, designing test hardware, executing qualification and validation activities
- Participating in the design of test stations capable of performing accurate & precise vision tests in a semi-automated (prototyping) to a fully automated (production) environment

Skills & Requirements
We believe that you have:
- Fluent English with strong communication skills
- BSc or MSc in relevant Engineering discipline: e.g. Industrial/Mechanical/Mechatronics engineering
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in mechatronics/automation, industrialization, and/or gauging/testing
- Experience using, programming and evaluating some of the following: laser triangulation sensors, displacement sensors, profilometers, optical micrometers, pattern lighting projection systems, linescan/area scan cameras, 2D/3D AOI systems, etc.
- Experience in providing solutions to some (or all!) of the following applications: geometric dimensional measurements, presence detection, text/barcode inspection, position detection and correction, surface defect inspection, etc.
- Experience using systems from one or more of: Keyence, Cognex, Basler, Baumer, Stemmer Imaging, DALSA, etc.
- Good fundamental understanding of optics: sensors, lenses, lighting, polarization, lasers, diffraction and interference.
- Strong background in statistical process control (SPC) and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)

- Experience in machine building or system integration
