We are looking for a passionate and driven manager to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is part of our Quality Control team at Northvolt Labs, based in Västerås, Sweden. By joining us, you will be a key player in building up and being responsible for the mechanical quality control inspection processes of our R&D and Labs battery cell production lines and ultimately contribute towards making oil history.
About the job
As manager of the mechanical quality control laboratory, you will lead a team of engineers and technicians performing mechanical inspections and developing materials characterisation techniques for mechanical components and sub-products from our various battery cell production lines. You will be responsible for managing the team, drive technical topics as well as be involved in hands-on production investigations related to our mechanical sub-products and processes when laboratory support is needed. In this role, we expect you to have an analytical mindset and a hands-on approach to your tasks. You enjoy diving into different topics and resolving bottlenecks, listening, and sharing knowledge across the team to build up competence, and you can effectively collaborate across group boundaries (Production Technology, R&D, Supplier Quality, Logistics, etc.) to continuously improve our mechanical characterisation and testing capabilities in the laboratory.
About the team
You will be a part of the wider Quality Control organisation at Northvolt Labs. Our QC organisation, currently composed of 30 dedicated laboratory technicians, analytical chemists, QC engineers and area managers, is divided into several sub-teams tackling different parts of battery cell production quality inspections and failure analysis investigations. You will have access to a fully equipped laboratory with high-end analytical instruments that cover both chemical and mechanical testing capabilities. You will play a key role in building up the mechanical laboratory capabilities within the team and the wider company.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Continuously drive to improve process quality control process flows as well as be hands-on and collaborate across teams to address bottlenecks, investigate and resolve issues and improve the team’s workflows.
Responsible to manage a team of technicians and engineers, ensure enough team members are trained to perform inspections, good people and leadership skills, challenges and helps both junior and senior team members to grow and develop in their role.
Drive technical projects, MSA and validation studies, as well as participate in searching, validating and implementing new characterisation methods and technologies together with engineers/chemists within the team.
Have a data driven approach and analytical mindset, insist on answers and solutions that can be substantiated by data and/or engineering tests, avoiding the trap of finding a root cause driven by timelines instead of science.

At least 2+ years of industry experience working on topics and tasks related to materials characterisation, quality inspections, process quality controls in an R&D or production environment.

Northvolt makes green batteries for a blue planet. Affordable cells and high-quality battery systems. All manufactured with a record-low carbon footprint. Purposely built to provide Europe with the opportunity to switch to renewable energy – efficiently and entirely.
To accomplish this, we do things differently. We design, manufacture, and recycle everything under one roof. We even build our own factories. All this is incredibly challenging and requires us to think in unconventional ways. We’re constantly experimenting, learning and adapting to make batteries so great – they will one day make oil history.
Northvolt is growing fast. We’re staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We're also hiring for our gigafactory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden. We want to work with smart individuals from all disciplines. Strong individuals that truly want to make a positive impact on the future. Those of us already on board share a passion for our mission. We’re prepared to work hard in pursuit of excellence. We enjoy the ride and our main drive is to make a difference for real. As a team, we’re dedicated to thinking new, working hard and having fun.
