HOW IT WORKS

  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, get plugged into the right networks, and get to understand market nuances.

  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startup while being paid a stipend.

  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup after the experience.

Startup Partner:Duplo

Duplo is a Lagos-based fintech startup that enables businesses in Africa to digitize their receivables and payables, reduce time-to-cash, lower transaction costs, and generate more revenue from their business customers.

Duplo's mission is to make B2B payments as simple as P2P payment apps and they are currently backed by top investors including Tribe Capital, Commerce Ventures, Liquid2 Ventures, Basecamp Fund, Soma Capital, YCombintaor, Oui Capital, and others.

Engagement Description

Duplo is looking to bring on a VFA fellow who will be the glue that binds its product strategy to the tactics needed to drive success in sales and marketing, ultimately delivering measurable results.

Specifically, you will be responsible for supporting marketing efforts including positioning the product and product messaging, driving demand, adoption, and retention, and account expansion of the product in a continuous cycle.

Post the 3-month immersion experience, this engagement will evolve into a Head of Growth role.

Some of the deliverables you'll be tasked with include to:

  • Develop a deep understanding of Duplo’s customers and keep a pulse on the competitive landscape to inform the company’s go-to-market strategy.
  • Lead Duplo’s product marketing strategy. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—product managers, sales, design, editorial, customer success, and many others —to acquire, engage, and retain customer segments

  • Work closely with sales and product teams to develop product pricing models, key messaging, and value propositions.

  • Use insights and data to inform user narratives and programs that improve the consumer experience leading to user growth and product awareness and adoption.

  • Work closely with product management to set priorities for promotional focus and efforts in order to best allocate resources to key growth product features.
  • Design and implement growth experiments at every stage of the customer lifecycle

Reports to: CEO

Skills & Requirements

  • 6 years of experience in B2B product marketing with exposure to both small and medium-sized businesses.
  • Experience working in a product marketing, strategy, product, or general management capacity (partnered closely with product management to represent market requirements and with sales to support product launches)
  • Experience working closely with sales and creative teams
  • Demonstrated success and passion for collecting and using customer insight to drive strategic decisions
  • Proven experience in managing the end-to-end delivery of data-driven marketing and communications

Nice to have

  • While it's not critical that you've worked in fintech before, it would be a plus
  • Experience in performance marketing / paid acquisition
