The Quality Control Team at Northvolt Labs in Västerås is looking for interns and/or Masters thesis students to join and reinforce our team on several projects. You will be working on various quality control analyses of raw materials and parts used as incoming material in the battery production process. Your work will be focused on analysis of battery electrolyte and electrodes. You will be trained to independently analyse and report analyses results using advanced instruments and equipment in the Quality Control laboratory and learn about the manufacturing process of battery materials and cells.
Following internship/Masters thesis topics are available:
1) Method development and validation of chromatographic methods for analysis of battery electrolyte using ion and gas chromatography (IC, GC-MS). Looking for candidates with a background and interest in analytical chemistry and/or chromatography.
2) Development and validation of characterisation methods of battery slurry component s with the focus on surface and thermal properties (TGA, DSC, rheology, BET, SEM). Looking for candidates with a background and interest in inorganic chemistry and/or materials science.
3) Inspection of various incoming materials and components as part of our incoming quality team. Working closely with the production, logistics and warehouse team. Looking for candidates with good communication skills and interest in operational incoming quality, chemical and mechanical testing.
4) Development of surface inspection methods by means of microscopy (optical end electron-based), ion milling and sputter-coating techniques, coupled with elemental analysis (EDX). The project is axed on extensive work with the SEM and auxiliary tools for the opportune modification of a surface to then conduct analyses. Looking for candidates with electron microscopy experience or strong interest in such materials characterisation techniques.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Carry out day-to-day incoming quality control inspections in the QC laboratory ensuring that specifications are met.
Participate and help chemists and engineers in method development and validation projects – this might be by leading a smaller project by yourself with support and guidance from an engineer when needed.
Get trained and operate various analytical equipment such as titrators, gas chromatograph and ion chromatograph, UV-Vis, to name a few.
Troubleshooting instruments basic problems.
Interpret data and report data/results vs specification.
Excellent English s written and oral skills
Team player but ability to work independently
Demonstrates strong analytical and communication abilities
Ability to work with hazardous substances
World leading technique
Top specialists as team peers
Fast paced & entrepreneurial culture
Northvolt makes green batteries for a blue planet. Affordable cells and high-quality battery systems. All manufactured with a record-low carbon footprint. Purposely built to provide Europe with the opportunity to switch to renewable energy – efficiently and entirely.
To accomplish this, we do things differently. We design, manufacture, and recycle everything under one roof. We even build our own factories. All this is incredibly challenging and requires us to think in unconventional ways. We’re constantly experimenting, learning and adapting to make batteries so great – they will one day make oil history.
Northvolt is growing fast. We’re staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We're also hiring for our gigafactory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden. We want to work with smart individuals from all disciplines. Strong individuals that truly want to make a positive impact on the future. Those of us already on board share a passion for our mission. We’re prepared to work hard in pursuit of excellence. We enjoy the ride and our main drive is to make a difference for real. As a team, we’re dedicated to thinking new, working hard and having fun.
