Security Consultant

Salary Range $100,000 - $135,000

We have openings for mid-level Security Consultants on our US team based out of New York City. Your role will be primarily composed of penetration testing and other security assessments across our client base. Depending on your skill, aptitude and career goals, your role can include, but won’t be limited to:

  • Application Security Assessments
  • Cloud Security Assessments
  • Network Security Assessments
  • Mobile Security Assessments
  • Purple Team Assessments
  • Red Team & Targeted Attack Simulations

Key Responsibilities

Consultants are responsible for the end-to-end delivery of our penetration testing and consulting services from scoping all the way through testing, reporting and post-project communications. Expectations for this level include:

  • Being technically proficient, with the ability to confidently deliver consulting services to clients across a range of core service areas. While Consultants at this level have a well-rounded skillset, they are also well on their way to specializing in a few areas of their choice.
  • Strong interpersonal and consultancy skills to offer advice, guidance and maintain effective client relationships.
  • Working independently or as part of a team, leading engagements when required.
  • Effectively communicating both verbally and in writing with members of the team and clients directly.
  • Playing an assisting role in the development of new services and internal projects, as well as helping advance the skillsets of other team members through mentorship and knowledge sharing.
  • Actively participating in research, both on your own as well as supporting research performed by other team members.

Technical excellence

You’ve earned knowledge through experience and can adapt to different situations as needed. For example, you don’t just know how to run a port scan using nmap, but you could code your own tool to perform a port scan if you really needed to.

While not always a strict requirement, we want to see any output such as blogs, write-ups, projects, and certifications that show off what you can do.

Communication skills

Communication skills are just as important as your technical abilities. Consultants will explain what we did, how we did it, and how clients can fix it. They can present both the bigger picture and the microscopic details of an engagement to a range of audiences from high-level business stakeholders to up-and-coming team members.

Motivation to research and learn

WithSecure has a commitment to research. Our consultants get a percentage of their time dedicated to it in order to ensure their skills remain relevant. You should be keen to produce research that pushes the industry forward as well as contribute to WithSecure Labs (https://labs.withsecure.com). Consultants can either work on research solo, or team up with others on cool projects. Whether research time is used to investigate new software, hardware or protocols, we encourage our team to push the boundaries of what is possible!

Consultants have an 80% utilization target, meaning that 20% of your time will be spent on some of the following:

  • Training (internal and external courses, certifications and conferences)
  • Research
  • Internal Security Assessments

Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have most of the qualities below, which are presented in approximate order of importance. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single one of these requirements. We value diversity and want to grow our team with a passion for security.

  • 1+ years of experience performing and leading penetration tests in areas such as application security, cloud security, network security, and mobile security.
  • Skills to professionally communicate security ideas through reporting and presenting to a range of audiences.
  • Experience writing and editing reports both solo and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrable interest in security. We want to see your personal projects, code, blog posts, and more.
  • Experience with related skills such as programming, systems administration, or blue team activities.
  • Relevant certifications, especially those that demonstrate practical skills (OSCP, CRTO, cloud certifications).
  • A relevant academic degree (e.g., Engineering or Computer Science).

Candidates must have the right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. International travel and additional vetting for specific clients may be required.
