Volvo Cars is one of the most well-known and respected car brands in the world. Northvolt is a leading supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems, dedicated to delivering the world’s greenest lithium-ion battery. Together, we have formed a joint venture, NOVO Energy, to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo and Polestar cars.

Few industries offer as great an opportunity for career growth and personal development as the new European battery industry. In working for this joint venture, you'll not only develop skills that are highly sought after in the global automotive and industrial sector, but you are also contributing to a climate-neutral way of life for future generations. We are building a state-of-the-art facility for research and development of the next generation of battery cells, and we need your help in making it happen.

What we offer
We offer a Senior software and systems engineer role, where you together with a small team will conceptualize, develop and maintain software and platforms, to enable and help the R&D scientists and engineers be at the forefront of automotive battery research and development. You will work in close collaboration with the battery cell developers and other parts of the R&D organisation, as well as Volvo and Northvolt. We are in a startup phase, so you have great opportunities to contribute to our future success by your entrepreneurial spirit and “can do” attitude.

Key responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, develop, and deliver an R&D test platform and supporting software that handles a wide range of incoming data streams, from battery testers to images to manually entered form data.
  • Based on fast-changing internal requirements and ever-improving industrial practices and products, deliver responsive changes and refactors of the platform and supporting software.
  • Architect and own robust, secure back-end data pipelines and storage. Create responsive front-end software for R&D teams to use, from manual data entry forms to no-code database queries to dynamic graphs and charts.
  • Make complex build-vs-buy decisions about software systems, and always be able to back up your decisions with data and clear communication. Translate underdefined problem statements from throughout the organization into actionable requirements specs.
  • Fix things when they break. While this role will not involve consumer-facing production software, it is essential for our data pipelines to provide high uptime and data integrity.
  • When necessary, work with outside vendors, service providers, and contractors to get projects delivered on time.
  • Personally invest in creating an inclusive, collaborative working environment with teammates from all over the globe. Help onboard new teammates with clear communication, shared goals, and mutual trust.
