Venture for Africa offers a 3-month immersion program designed to immerse top local and global talent in the African startup ecosystem.

We enable experienced talent who might be new to the startup space or the particular market they’re looking to enter, to soft-land and gain context while working with a startup or venture fund that's hiring.

Are you ready to #TaketheLeap?

  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, get plugged into the right networks, and get to understand market nuances.

  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startup while being paid a stipend.

  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup after the experience.

Startup Partner:Affinity

Affinity is a digitally driven financial institution that provides affordable services to the underserved and unbanked.

They have built channels for both digital natives and low-fidelity users, enabling them to provide banking services 24/7 to the mass market at a low cost. Their products are delivered via mobile apps and an Agency network.

Affinity is the first financial institution to get a deposit collecting license in Ghana in almost a decade. They are preparing a hard launch (with a customer base of 10,000 users acquired during proof of concept), introducing Affinity's mobile app and agency network.

Engagement Description

Affinity is looking to bring on a VFA fellow who will be tasked with managing and protecting the Affinity brand across all channels, with its customers at the centre (brand, design, advertising, and comms).

You will oversee and coordinate the official launch of Affinity in Ghana, building a team for in-house campaigns as well as working alongside senior management.

The role is both creative and analytical, involving research, overseeing branding and messaging, executing campaigns and content development, as well as tracking KPIs to measure and report.

Post the 3-month immersion experience, this engagement will evolve into a Head of Growth role.

Some of the deliverables you'll be tasked with include:

  • Developing Affinity’s go-to-market strategy, including branding and positioning, content, and digital marketing efforts, and the launch of physical, digital, and agent-led presence to acquire and engage its key customer base and ensure launch success.
  • Developing customer engagement and activation strategies and execution across the funnel to deliver growth targets for the business; from acquisition to transactions, increasing lifetime value.
  • Advising and implementing growth strategies across key customer segments (online and offline), with feedback, research, and analysis as a foundation for this strategy development.
  • Copywriting and management of key stakeholder communications e.g., press releases, partnership engagement, social media platforms, and digital platforms.
  • Reporting on all marketing activities, using deliverables and KPIs to measure success, implementing changes, refining strategy, and reviewing where necessary
