Welcome to Rovio!
We are looking for a Technical Director to join our newly-formed MMO Studio in London, UK.
Rovio’s London studio is the latest addition to the Rovio family and this is a great chance to be part of creating a culture and a game from a fresh start. Here in London we have a fantastic creative and commercial brief and the enthusiastic backing of one of the undisputed global leaders of mobile F2P gaming. And true to Rovio’s Nordic heritage, we are committed to providing a real work/life balance, support for family life, and excellent opportunities for learning and personal development.
We are creating a massively-multiplayer game, and it will be your responsibility to hire and manage the development team. Backed by our technical teams in our Finnish and Swedish offices, you will create a solution that meets the game design requirements with highly functional, efficient, secure and scalable technical services. This is a position that will really reward someone with both technical and people skills, equally able to motivate the technical team in a small studio, create world-class technical architecture design, and discuss, pitch and implement ideas.
This is a senior, founding role with serious responsibility attached and while the studio is starting small, there is room to grow at Rovio. More than anything, we want someone who wants to be part of a great, diverse team and help create a fantastic culture that makes amazing games.
You'll fit in our flock if you want to:
Create a shared vision with a great team
Achieve both creative and commercial success
Make creating a fantastic culture a part of your job
Develop beyond your current expertise
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Assemble and lead the technical development team
Oversee the complete technical development of a mobile MMO from scratch
Participate in code peer reviews and help in developing team’s technical skills
Lead technical problem management and define QA methodology
Coordinate with Central Tech in Finland
Communicate and align with other teams in the company
Contribute to sprint planning, scrum development and develop ways-of-working
Deploy services and support operations when needed
Participate in active development
We’d love you to have these feathers in your cap:
Collaborative and consensus driven approach
Msc in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar, or equivalent work experience
Experience using C# and Unity in game development
Excellent knowledge of client-server development
Good understanding of core network services as they relate to a mobile MMO
Experience with NoSQL and SQL databases, and cloud service providers such as AWS
Good understanding of security (game hacking, cheating, DoS, privacy, payment processing)
Working experience with Git and Jira
Understanding and experience of Agile development practices
Experience developing RESTful services
A genuine interest in F2P and mobile games, as well as the wider world of gaming
Equal parts ambitious and humble
Open to feedback and eager to learn and apply new skills
Previous experience of shipping an online game at scale is highly desired
We want the best team, not necessarily the best individuals, so we’re looking for team members who want to work on problems worth solving. If you’re wondering if you should apply or not, we hope you do.
Send your application over now - we look forward to hearing from you!
