About the role

ReMarkable is still growing, in terms of the number of both employees and customers. We are unique in that we build our own hardware, OS, and software on all platforms, amongst other things. We are now looking for ambitious security engineers who can take ownership in the cyber security area. In the technology department, we house engineers qualified in various disciplines, some of them in security. As part of your work, you will be responsible for combining our internal knowledge and experience and building the framework for tomorrow's solutions supporting reMarkable’s mission.

At reMarkable, you’ll be challenged by a diverse technical landscape. We use GCP as our primary cloud vendor, but are positioning ourselves for a multi-cloud future. Our backend is so far primarily written in Go, Node.js and Python and follows a few flavors of services. We generally operate high-up on the cloud stack, but move closer to the metal for specific needs. Our web solutions are fairly advanced and depicted by SPAs, micro-frontends, pre-rendering and A/B experiments. In addition to this, you would need to maintain a high-level understanding of how different platforms function, including our reMarkable paper tablets.


Further tasks and responsibilities:

  • Defining and developing our security framework

  • Evaluating and integrating security tools, services and external partners

  • Rotating across cross-functional teams to educate and validate solutions

  • Modeling threat scenarios continuously and automating remediation tasks

  • Designing and running contingency plans for security events

  • Implementing security standards

We believe that you:

  • Have a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or higher), or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Have worked with major public clouds

  • Possess good knowledge of threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, IAM or Security testing

  • Have experience with evaluating and onboarding security tools

  • Have an understanding of different security frameworks, like NIST CSF, CIS Controls or ISO 27001/2

  • Have relevant certifications: CompTIA, CISM, CISSP, CEH, OSCP, CCSP, or similar

It is also an advantage if you have...

Experience with scripting and programming in one or more languages. You might have worked some years as a developer and found an interest and passion for security that you would like to pursue. In your previous roles you might have dealt with security vendors and consultants, for instance pen testers. As a person, you are patient and persistent and have a track record of seeing projects all the way through. In the world of security, the challenges are ever changing, and you have a flexible and solution-oriented mindset. If this applies to you, we would be happy to see your application.
