Venture for Africa offers a 3-month immersion program designed to immerse top local and global talent in the African startup ecosystem.

Startup Partner:NALA

NALA is on a mission to increase economic opportunity on the African continent and for its diaspora around the world. By creating community-powered financial solutions, they make it easier to make day-to-day payments and do business in an increasingly global Africa.

Engagement Description

NALA is looking for an individual with significant operations experience to serve as a compliance analyst. You will be tasked with identifying and evaluating compliance risks in all jurisdictions where NALA has a presence.

You will help develop standards and processes to guarantee that compliance programmes across the organization are effective and efficient in detecting, preventing, and rectifying noncompliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Some of the deliverables you'll be tasked with include:

  • Working closely with the COO to develop a compliance rule book, which you'll continually update making sure each Nala jurisdiction is compliant with regulatory laws.
  • Working with local AML enforcement agencies on AML and financial crime matters
  • Transaction Monitoring and Sanction Filtering across the business.
  • Monitoring and reporting higher-risk customer issues and transactions such as PEPs and FEPs
  • Translating regulation into internal guidelines and policies, and educating and training employees on regulatory and financial service industry practices

Reports to: COO

Skills & Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in a compliance role where you identified and managed compliance risks
  • A tech-first mindset and an understanding of how technology, tools and systems can solve compliance challenges
  • Experience with RegTech software
  • Experience in roles where AML, KYC, and transaction monitoring formed a large part of your day-to-day experience

  • Knowledgeable of financial services laws and regulations

  • Capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-performance environment

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with the fintech payments industry and the various compliance requirements from a regulatory perspective.
  • You’ve used rule-based fraud / compliance / AML / KYC tools
  • Experience with UK regulatory and legal issues
  • You are a certified compliance/AML professional
