Venture for Africa offers a 3-month immersion program designed to immerse top local and global talent in the African startup ecosystem.

We enable experienced talent who might be new to the startup space or the particular market they’re looking to enter, to soft-land and gain context while working with a startup or venture fund that's hiring.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, get plugged into the right networks, and get to understand market nuances.

  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startup while being paid a stipend.

  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup after the experience.

Startup Partner:NALA

NALA is on a mission to increase economic opportunity on the African continent and for its diaspora around the world. By creating community-powered financial solutions, they make it easier to make day-to-day payments and do business in an increasingly global Africa.

Engagement Description ****

NALA is looking for an individual with significant operations experience to serve as both a strategic partner and a hands-on, cross-functional leader to help actively grow the business.

Some of the deliverables you'll be tasked with include:

  • Working with the team and senior management to create impactful KPIs and with the operations and support team to achieve those KPIs.
  • Designing, developing, supporting, and optimizing infrastructure, tools, solutions and processes.
  • Working closely with the People team to design effective performance frameworks that ensure incentives are well aligned
  • Working closely with the Talent team to ensure that workloads are planned and that there is adequate support for the volumes NALA deals with on a day to day basis.
  • Being accountable for the effectiveness of the operations and support teams.

Reports to: COO

Skills & Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a people management position; a Master's Degree in Business Administration or related field is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience of working with modern customer support tools such as Zendesk or Intercom.
  • Experience with process management and optimisation.
  • Experience managing and delivering with Customer Experience teams
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills with existing, or the ability to quickly establish, strong relationships with stakeholder individuals and groups at all levels across the firm

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with the fintech payments industry and the various compliance requirements from a regulatory perspective.
  • Experience creating end-to-end scalable processes from scratch in a fast-growing startup environment.
