General Summary

Bonnier Books UK is looking for two book cover designers to join its award-winning design team, creating high impact book covers across its growing adult and children’s lists.

This is the ideal opportunity for a creative with two years of book cover design looking to progress and build their portfolio and skills working across a broad range of genres, in a stimulating and supportive environment.

Designer #1 will have a good market knowledge of adult trade publishing, with an interest in adult non-fiction, from commercial to more literary, including celebrity publishing.

Designer #2 will have a good market knowledge of commercial children’s fiction from middle-grade to young adult, and cross-over.

As well as having a strong interest in design, typography, image and illustration, you will have solid organisation skills, including the ability to maintain schedules and meet deadlines. You will also be a clear communicator, as the role will require liaising closely with the editorial, sales and production teams to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to the highest standard.

A strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Designing high impact book covers to brief and across a broad range of lists and genres, including adult and children’s
  • Being aware of market trends in various genres and being prepared to break the mould and push boundaries with designs
  • Liaising with the creative studio manager and other departments including editorial, production, and sales to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to the highest standard
  • Ensuring cover artwork is press ready and supplied according to printer specification
  • Presenting your covers in team meetings
  • Supporting the team with general administration as required

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications and experience

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a design role in publishing, ideally with experience designing covers for children’s lists
  • A positive team player with a pro-active approach
  • A clear communicator, capable of working effectively with various teams and functions across the business
  • Good organisation skills with the ability to maintain schedules and meet deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite / Cloud
