Senior Machine Learning Engineer
This is a call for our future Senior Machine Learning Engineer to guide Blocket’s technology to its next steps towards better integration with ML, better customer experience and ultimately, for a better world. This is the chance for you to bring your competence, passion and guidance to a team who is now on the verge of embracing the full AI and ML potential, by building up and strengthening our competence in this field. Have you just felt a spark in you while reading these lines? Keep reading, there is more to it!
What you will be up to
We are currently ramping up our use of Machine Learning technologies. Last year we took our first step in this direction and started working on a recommendation model platform based on collaborative filtering, aimed at a better personalization of Blocket’s user experience. While building the groundwork, we soon realized that professional expertise in ML technology would be a must for the platform to be up to the industry’s standards. And here is where you come along!
As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will first focus on the personalization project and platform development. You are part of a diverse team of 7 colleagues, including developers, UX designers, an engineer manager and product manager. Your purpose is to maintain and continuously develop the platform, so to fully implement Blocket’s first ML application. Exciting!
Moreover, your impact will not be limited to the tech area, but you will also represent a key actor to the Blocket’s transition to ML technology. Therefore you also collaborate outside of the personalization project, share your knowledge and show the different possibilities of ML technology to product development teams and other Blocket areas and onboard developers to make use of it.
Ultimately, you are stepping in as our first ML professional, and this means that overall ML competence across Blocket teams is still to be built and strengthened. Despite the learning process and complete onboarding on the use of ML might take some time, this translates to you into an unique opportunity to guide Sweden’s biggest marketplace to its next era.
Who you are
Previous experience in designing and setting up a ML infrastructure at scale in a cloud environment. You master ML applications like Collaborative filtering and Computer vision (Recognition, Classification).
You are hands-on developing and utilizing ML models in production settings and you have good knowledge of the following tools: PySpark or Spark for data processing, Tensorflow or PyTorch, and Python.
Understanding of GDPR regulations and of processing personal data accordingly, to safeguard the integrity of our users.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development.
Fluency in English (even on Monday mornings ;-)
As a person, you’re a teamplayer and agree with us that collaborating with others and moving forward together is the way how big wins are made. You know how to get people on the same page and are willing to onboard and teach others.

Blocket services are for everyone and so is our workplace. We have an inclusive culture and we see diversity as a great advantage to create great services for our users and clients. However, we are not perfect (yet) and still have a lot more to do in regards to this and therefore your perspective is needed and most welcome. With that said - you do not have to be a motor, car, snow mobile or whatever vehicle fan or expert. We are happy to chit chat about anything. It is actually how great code is developed.
Hello from your Manager, Johan!
I am Johan and I am looking to build a team that focuses on collaboration and experimentation. We will create something new on Blocket that will require testing and iteration to get right. So it is important that you are driven by creating the best possible user experience. We will also be taking over a few existing product areas that will require you to learn and manage already loved functionality.
As a leader I will help setting the context and make connections throughout our organization. We will have goals but I will leave a lot of room for you to be creative and to bring your own ideas to the table. Welcome to Blocket and team Personalization, we are really looking forward to having you onboard.
Interested in joining the Blocket world?
We look forward to hearing from you! Send your CV or apply with your LinkedIn-profile and let us know what makes you tick by Sunday August 14! We would love to get to know you a bit better!

The Blocket journey began in Skåne 1996 - since then the concept of Blocket has been exported to over 40 other countries. Today, Blocket, which is owned by the media group Schibsted, is Sweden’s largest online marketplace. There are approximately 600 000 items, vehicles, jobs and housing being advertised and discovered by its 5 million visitors every week.
