Want to make an impact with your code for millions of users for one of Sweden’s most well known brands? Work with a circular economy and at the same time save around 800 000 tonnes of greenhouse gases yearly? Cool, then keep on reading!

In the beginning, there was only köp&sälj. At the time in ancient tech history, some 25 years ago, this diamond was born. Not to brag, but it was a success from the start. A masterpiece that has been cloned and exported to +30 countries. A famous and very loved product by people all over the world. And by nature. Oh dear, what good it brings to Mother Earth.

Today, this part of Blocket is still the core of everything. No köp&sälj, no Blocket. And even if we have been around for a while, there are as many exciting things ahead of us in this marketplace jewel. Just as it was in the beginning.

We are Blocket, Sweden’s largest and most popular marketplace with around 12,3M monthly active users generating 100 million sessions. We are proud of our work to enable second-hand trade in Sweden and our contribution to a positive environmental impact.

What you'll be up to:

Do you enjoy writing code but want to expand your role? Do you want to focus not only on development, but act as a bridge between tech and product? Then Team Generalist - Private Seller might just be the right place for you!

The team’s mission is to create successful and relevant ads by providing a frictionless way to insert and manage sellable items for private generalist sellers, in order to help them sell quickly and securely. And this is where you come in. Your focus would generally be on the backend, but you would also be working on the frontend depending on the project phases, adopting a holistic approach to development that enables you to work successfully across the whole stack. We are migrating from a monolithic architecture to microservices, so it would be beneficial if you had some previous experience working with distributed systems.

Skills & Requirements

Who you are

We believe you are a backend or full-stack engineer with some experience beneath your belt working with microservices and distributed systems. You have a holistic approach to development and a focus on the backend, although you are also comfortable working across the entire stack, depending on the project phases and workload.

You enjoy teamwork but are also able to work independently in the development of new features across the stack and enjoy discussing and debating code and solutions with your peers.

You like sharing your knowledge with your cross-functional team and more junior developers, and above all, you are curious and continuously strive to learn new things. We are often working in pairs, so collaboration is another key.

About the company

The Blocket journey began in Skåne 1996 - since then the concept of Blocket has been exported to over 40 other countries. Today, Blocket, which is owned by the media group Schibsted, is Sweden’s largest online marketplace. There are approximately 600 000 items, vehicles, jobs and housing being advertised and discovered by its 5 million visitors every week. The value for all advertisements in 2018 amounted to SEK 714 billion - equal to 15 percent of Sweden’s GDP. Thanks to second-hand trading at Blocket, 0.8 million tonnes of greenhouse gases can be avoided every year. The output being equivalent to if Stockholm’s city roads stood empty for about a year. Blocket has approximately 240 colleagues and the office is located in central Stockholm. Together, we are passionate about second-hand trading, the environment and the continued growth of Blocket - one of Sweden’s largest sites. We are proud environmental heroes and enjoy working together. Read more on our career page.
