Volvo Cars is one of the most well-known and respected car brands in the world. Northvolt is a leading supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems, dedicated to delivering the world’s greenest lithium-ion battery. Together, we have formed a joint venture to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo and Polestar cars.

Few industries offer as great an opportunity for career growth and personal development as the new European battery industry. In working for this joint venture, you'll not only develop skills that are highly sought after in the global automotive and industrial sector but you are also contributing to a climate-neutral way of life for future generations.

The gigafactory will be one of the largest cell production facilities in Europe. With construction set to begin in 2023, the plant will have a potential annual cell production capacity of up to 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) and thereby enable a supply of batteries for approximately half a million Volvo and Polestar cars per year. As the battery makes up a large part of an electric vehicle’s total life cycle carbon emissions, this foundation for clean battery production forms a key basis for Volvo Cars’ aspirations for sustainable manufacturing and a fully climate-neutral manufacturing network.

If you are experienced within Health, Safety and Environment in the Construction industry, this opportunity is for you.

About the job
You will serve a key role in the governance regarding the care and protection of our employees. This position revolves around ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Environment legislation/regulations in construction.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring compliance with all HSE legislation

  • Continually maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge, and preparedness to create a culture that prioritizes effective HSE

  • Identifying gaps when present, performing the necessary risk analyses, and ensuring that an action plan is both developed and executed on time

  • Highlighting shortcomings which are not being properly addressed or are persistent issues, continuously, up to the level necessary until they are resolved (when issues are delegated and left unresolved, you take over ownership)

  • Monitoring compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations

  • Environmental permits and contact with authorities

  • Regular reporting on health and safety awareness, issues, environmental performance and statistics

You genuinely care for people and find it easy to influence others through indirect leadership. You can be a bit nerdy in finding a good structure and creating rules and systems. At the same time you are creative and flexible, allowing you to figure out how to solve problems in the least burdensome, expedient manner.
