Senior Project Engineering Manager Germany

Northvolt has a great opportunity for a Senior Project Engineering Manager to support the construction of our Northvolt Germany giga factory. We are looking for a passionate, self-driven and technically competent Senior Project Engineering Manager to join our in-house construction design and engineering team.

You will be part of the Factory Program leadership team that will drive the planning, purchasing, construction and commissioning of our new battery factory in Heide, Germany. Built in multiple phases over 5+ years the factory represents a multi-billion Euro investment project. Together with your colleagues from the Program team you will be accountable to lead internal and external teams cross-functionally to deliver on company targets and in line with customer expectations.

The office is currently located in Hamburg with an outreach to Heide, Schleswig-Holstein where the gigafactory will be built, a commuting set-up between the locations will be required. Please don’t apply if you are not willing to regularly commute to site. In joining us you will play an important role in building some of the first large scale European battery factories and in the transition to a carbon-free society.

The role is a part our factory program team in Germany but will work closely with the team in Sweden who makes the design for both Northvolt Ett and our Revolt recycling facility in the northern part of Sweden. The position as Senior Project Engineering Manager offers a role at the core of our facilities design organization. You will enable the integrated design for Northvolt's turn-key battery factories. You will have the overall responsibility for coordinating, reviewing, and approving design drawings, reports, and as-built documents of Northvolt facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating collaboration among stakeholders throughout project lifecycle
  • Communicating clear objectives, expectations, and priorities to all engineering disciplines
  • Tracking the status and progress of all outstanding activities
  • Reporting the design statuses and project risks, escalating where necessary
  • Keeping the various design disciplines focused on the highest project priorities
  • Encouraging creative problem solving to achieve company objectives on tight schedules and within budget
  • Support ongoing construction activities through review of RFIs, Q/A, Change Orders, Submittal Reviews, etc.

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have: ****

  • M.Sc. in the Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering fields
  • Have experience in the design of heavy industrial, manufacturing, or chemical process facilities
  • Be familiar with general building code legislation and the requirements for building safe facilities in Germany
  • Excellent communication skills as the role requires constant interaction with team members and external parties such as contractors, vendors, authorities and auditors.
  • Fluency in English and German
  • Extensive Project Manger skills, preferably PMI, IPMA or equivalent
  • Familiarity with standard office and management software tools and platforms

Bonus points for:

  • Have experience working in a design or project management function on technically complex projects
  • Experience working on international projects and in multi-cultural environments
  • Being an expert in one field of engineering and be well-versed in all construction/engineering subjects
