We are looking for an experienced Site construction manager (m/f/d) to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. By joining us, you will be part our Construction team to deliver a safe, sustainable and competitive mega( multi billion €) project for Northvolt and contribute to building one of the first large-scale German battery factories.

You will be part of the Factory Program Construction leadership team that will drive the planning, purchasing, construction and commissioning of our new battery factory in Heide, Germany. Built in multiple phases over 5+ years the factory represents a multi-billion Euro investment project. Together with your colleagues from the Program team you will be accountable to lead internal and external teams cross-functionally to deliver on company targets and in line with customer expectations.

About the job

This position’s purpose is to manage site infrastructure construction-related activities of the Heide mega project from groundwork to pre-commissioning. Site infrastructure scope include all facilities needed to support production buildings including: Road, utility connections, fire department building, site preparation work, construction logistic infrastructure, laydown areas….

After initial onboarding in Hamburg and Sweden, the role will require to be full time present on site in Heide since field preparation has started.

You embrace the project’s overall objective of safety, quality, cost and schedule.

As a Site construction Manager you ,with our site service contractor, will be also responsible to develop and manage all logistic and support services needed to execute this project.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the construction execution of the site infrastructure, according to time and budget, under safe conditions.
  • Oversees establishment of Project construction Plan, Health & Safety Plan and other documents for the site infrastructure.
  • Deliver outstanding safety result.
  • Coordinate all contractors at site to ensure good progress and cooperation, including daily coordination meetings with team and stakeholders.
  • Manage schedule progress together with the project planner and the team to get the battery plant up and running according to the overall time plan.

  • Collaboration with the Northvolt construction team and fostering collaboration with external partners.

  • Establish and inspire an inclusive on-site working culture while ensuring execution quality during all project phases considering environmental protection, process and occupational safety until successful completion and acceptance of project deliverables

  • Manage the site service team who provide all temporary services and structures such as facilities, utilities, scaffolding, roads etc.

  • Work closely with the Building Construction team to enable an efficient execution of the buildings.

  • Interface the other Programs to plan the overall site – feedback to the design team to implement changes of the Master plan

You will report to the construction director and lead a small team of Northvolt employee.
You will have a counterpart in Sweden who can support with knowledge and skills learned while building the first giga factory in Sweden. Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have:

  • A master degree in engineering/ construction or Relevant University Degree
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in construction management of mega projects in international locations and diverse cultural environments.
  • Demonstration of successful performance as a construction manager in one major or mega-sized projects in Germany.
  • Understand German regulations related to construction activity.
  • Proven experience in quickly assembling a team of managers.
  • Delivered outstanding construction safety results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences, including senior management, co-workers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge and experience in project procurement, material management, construction, and work processes.

  • Uncompromising standards on safety and quality.

  • Decisive; holds people accountable to project delivery.

  • Great English and German written and oral skills
