We are looking for a driven Piping Design Lead Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our passionate mechanical team within Construction design. By joining us, you will be a key player in expanding our ETT factory and contribute to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

About the job
You will be responsible for leading the mechanical and piping scope at Northvolt’s upcoming world-scale Battery Active Materials factory in Skellefteå, Sweden. Delivering through top tier international engineering contractors.

About the team
You will be a part of a mechanical design team, bringing technical expertise within piping design. Each Team member will be responsible for a dedicated block but working together to assure design consistency through all buildings.

You will also be part of the design team for the block led by the block manager and the design manager. Here you will work closely with the design leads for other construction disciplines.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the mechanical design of the Project (world scale battery active materials plant) and acting as Northvolt representative in Mechanical Engineering towards the engineering contractor and other Stakeholders, internal and external
  • Providing technical guidance and assurance to engineering contractor delivering the detailed design of the project. Ensuring delivery to agreed quality standards, schedule and cost.
  • Gathering and assessing internal technical requirements and develop standards and guidelines, for the Project and the wider Northvolt group
  • Evaluating change proposals from own discipline, from cost, schedule, constructibility and HSE perspective
  • Attending design reviews

The person we are looking for got great communication skills as the role requires constant interaction with team members and external parties such as contractors, vendors, authorities and auditors. You are able to work as part of a team yet with the initiative and capacity to complete tasks independently. Furthermore you are flexible, friendly, motivated to take on new challenges, has grit and a sense of humor.

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years experience in industrial piping and/or mechanical design, preferably in both greenfield and brownfield settings.
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience working in projects involving heavy industry, e.g. mining and metals plants, Oil & Gas, chemicals, utilities
  • Previous experience working as a piping/mechanical engineer in all project phases from feasibility to construction and commissioning.
  • Experience in supporting other project functions with input, including estimating, scheduling, HSE risk assessments, and constructibility reviews
  • Familiarity with Swedish and European laws and standards is strongly desirable but not essential.
  • Great English written and oral skills

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in performing piping stress calculations using a piping stress calculation package such as CAEPIPE, CAESAR II or ROHR2.
