Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Technical Safety Engineer (Manufacturing Engineering) in Northvolt Systems passionate team for Factory Development in Stockholm. The Factory Development team is responsible for developing factory designs which supports seamless integration between production, packaging, material flow, supply chain, construction, and facilities teams. Through a detailed understanding of factory objectives and extensive collaboration with the internal and external teams designing the factory setup, this team ensures that the overall factory design achieves Northvolts demanding production targets. Today the team consist of ~10 people, and we are looking for our next star.

As part of an agile Factory Development team, the Technical Safety Engineer will ensure safe:

  • Product design from a manufacturing perspective,
  • Manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Material handling equipment and processes.

The role will establish and execute the governance from the prototyping development of product, processes, and equipment until integration of final products and serial equipment into Northvolt Systems factory network.

The role needs to set standards to be rolled out and maintained in Northvolt systems production facilities, promote safety culture in cross-functional teams and establish a functioning “Center of Competence” with safety functions in Northvolt systems production facilities. Therefore the role needs to collaborate with highly technical cross-functional internal and external (suppliers) teams to challenge technical solutions and develop feasible, safe solutions and procedures.

In joining us you will play an important part in building a sustainable Northvolt System factory network. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure a safe design of products for manufacturing (Design for manufacturing from a safety perspective) before entering serial production
  • Ensure a safe design of manufacturing equipment and processes and their integration into factories
  • Facilitate Risk Assessments: HAZOPs, Chemical compliance, Equipment Safety Reviews, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Offsite Consequence Analysis (OCA), (D/S/E)FMEA studies, and Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA)
  • Develop and recommend risk mitigation measures for identified hazards and follow-up on implementation progress
  • To promote safety culture within projects and his/her activities. Lead by exemplarity to have the team members and colleagues adhering and contributing. To adopt & demonstrate an exemplary behaviour regarding safety rules and requirements.
  • Integrate safety into everything we do at Northvolt Systems manufacturing and production and help keep us all adventurous forever!

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

  • M.Sc. in Engineering, preferably within Production Management/Logistics/Engineering, Process/Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • +4 years of experience as a technical safety engineer in manufacturing engineering or operative production,
  • +2 years of experience in product design and its technical safety aspects or proven capability assess product designs in CAD
  • Ability to achieve results through others including internal and external cross-functional teams by using excellent project management skills and communication – create and maintain open issue lists, master schedules, and lead multi-functional teams
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing and industrial safety principles, including how to meet these standards in non-standard ways. Flex your creative muscles all while meeting the intent of rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Experience doing the detailed analysis necessary to make data driven decisions on factory layout design, process design, production line/assembly line design or warehouse design
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information in a concise way to a non-technical audience, and vice versa.
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
