We are looking for an experienced Director of Construction, Engineering and Procurement for our manufacturing site in Borlange (Sweden). This multi-billion EUR investment includes both brownfield and greenfield facilities and will be producing battery cells, cathode active material as well as host a state of the art recycling plant.

By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing and scaling our Gigafactories, supporting vertical integration and therefore contributing greatly to our mission to a more sustainable future.

About the job
You will be responsible for the overall site planning, factory engineering and overall construction activities, including coordination of the installation of process equipment. Commissioning of utilities and building services is part or your responsibilities and you will support the factory commissioning and ramp up as required by the relevant responsible team.

Together with your team you make sure that the execution develops according to set quality, overall program plan and budget.

As the overall responsible for the construction site you will support your teams in managing consultants and contractors and ensure proper coordination across disciplines. Health and Safety is one of our utmost priorities and you will facilitate the interface between the different stakeholders on site during the construction period. Other important reponsibilities are quality and commercial management.

We would like to see that you easily find the right balance between strategic and hands-on leadership. You should be able to resolve daily issues on site, but at the same time you keep the helicopter perspective in sight to drive the overall project success.

About the team
You will report directly to the site project leadership and functionally to Northvolt construction central team. You will lead site project management, engineering and commercial management. Together with your direct reports you will lead a team of construction and engineering resources to manage a large number of consultants, contractors and service providers.

About the work environment

The office is located directly on the construction site. People who have joined us say that the work is very inspiring, the atmosphere positive and that they learn a lot. We dare to challenge conventional methods and with our hands-on mentality we get stuff done.

This role requires full-time presence in Borlange in Sweden in order to lead a large team and project effectively. Please don’t apply if you are not willing to move or regularly commute to site.

We believe that you have:

  • A degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent

  • At least 15 years of experience in design and construction of large-scale, complex industrial projects

  • Inspiring leadership skills and the ability to motivate and guide people through a greenfield construction project

  • Successful track record of leading and growing large multi-cultural and interdisciplinary teams with ambitious timelines and goals

  • Excellent English written and oral skills

  • Ability to build relationships with contractor organisations and influence them to perform

  • Commercial acumen and experience from handling large complex contracts

  • Willingness to walk the extra mile

Bonus points for:

  • Understanding of large equipment installation and integration
  • Experience from the local construction industry, permitting and regulation
  • Experience from working in international projects/different countries

  • Fluency in Swedish is a big plus
