Job description

Overview: The role comprises the following principal duties:
· Customer visits and telephone meetings alongside the AM
· Strategize with the Account Sales Specialists to drive sales of solution offerings
· Experience navigating and working with customer representatives (Procurement, IT & Network Organizations…)
· Work cross-functionally across Product Development, Network Engineering, Service Assurance and Marketing teams to penetrate new markets
· In formal RFP/RFI/RFQ bidding environments, act as point person for all technical portions of the bid package, analyze specifications, drawings and other documents to prepare time, costs, materials, and labor estimates including bid and design-build projects
· A broader role sharing best practice, experience and knowledge with the rest of the organization and thus contributing to improvements across the company

Customer visits and telephone meetings:

  • Actively participate in customer discussions in order to identify the customer’s requirements.

  • Lead discovery and research into prospective customer use cases, data networks and architectures and integrations

  • Play the role of technical expert and collaborative problem solver with prospects and customers

  • Support the AM with evaluation / feasibility studies together with the Network Developers (NetDev) and Product Manager (PM).

  • Package network and product elements to build solution options corresponding to the opportunities identified.

  • Provide support materials for customer discussions and furnish technical benefits to AM for positioning with the customer.

Building customer solutions:

  • Work with the PM and other Networks personnel to provide an optimized, sustainable solution following the Ways of Working developed by the SE group.
  • Work with Networks and Product Management where new services are required, to present the case and relevant support documentation.

  • Discuss design options with the customer.

  • Verify technical and commercial feasibility including network element availability and delivery intervals.

  • Identify SLA issues (quality analysis).

  • Identify threats and opportunities (risk analysis).

  • Identify leased elements required, and request cost and delivery information (procurement analysis). * Accurately document all incremental cost elements including operational costs and any investment required. This includes equipment, infrastructure, installation, leased elements, colocation and power.

  • Verify product elements are within guidelines. NB solutions can include any part of the Arelion product portfolio.

Production of Solution Documents :

  • Document all elements of the solution using the standard Solution Document templates.

  • Support discussions and decision forums when solutions are reviewed.

  • Update solution revisions as required.

  • Create process and best practices for the Solution Engineering Team

  • Store all solutions in the Solution Management Office.

Solution Implementation:

  • Must possess experience managing technical experts from vendors, subcontractors and customer groups to develop comprehensive solution sets and proposals incorporating capabilities outside Arelion core competencies

  • Provide complete solution hand-off to Delivery for implementation after sale

  • Support implementation kick-off meetings with Delivery organization as required.

  • Update solution documentation if necessary.

Input to Product, Process and Network Improvement:

  • Rely feedback and helping shape Arelion product roadmap based on what you are hearing out on the field

  • Collect customer requirements and identify product areas where feature enhancements or new product offerings may be made to enhance or improve Arelion product positioning, and sales opportunities.

  • Provide this feedback in a structured manner to PMs,

  • Collect customer requirements and identify network and/or process areas where enhancements or new locations may offer more customer opportunities, reduce costs, or provide better flexibility & reliability.

  • Coordinate with Network Development/PM for any service expansions.

The group: The SE Engineer will be part of the SE group that is composed of highly skilled professionals. (S)he will work closely with his/her SE peers, providing them with shared experience, support, knowledge, skills, feedback, lessons learned, tools, updates, training, materials, solutions, time and effort.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience with technical business documentation like workflow diagrams, proposals, SOWs, RFPs and RFIs etc…

  • Proven experience working with companies of all sizes from small business up to the largest enterprises and employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent presentation, communication, time management and listening skills with proven ability to motivate and train

  • Proven expertise in Arelion product portfolio https://www.arelion.com/products-and-services.html
    and the technologies supporting it starting with:

  • Layer 1 network design and systems (Infrastructure, DWDM)

  • Layer 2 network design and standards, including Ethernet WAN technologies, MEF services (ELINE, ELAN, EVPN)

  • Architecting/Design in IP, MPLS & MPLS-T Technologies, WAN, VPN

  • Education: Master degree or equivalent

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a pre-sale technical consulting role

  • A proven track record demonstrating good business judgment, and an ability to make decisions, good problem solving and solution design skills

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and writing

  • Understanding of business and operations

  • Proactive, Can-Do attitude

  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills to maintain a positive working atmosphere and establish collaborative relationships with various levels of management required

  • Flexible, open to change


  • Essential: Fluency in spoken and written English

  • Desirable: Other language skills appropriate to the market in which you would be operating
