Director of Business Control Germany

With Germany being the core of European auto manufacturing, its only natural it should also be a pioneer in scaling up battery cell manufacturing. At Northvolt we are excited to make this happen, and we have recently announced that Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, will be the location of our German Gigafactory.

With Hamburg as our current hub we are now bringing together a stellar team of individuals, who are equally excited, and who jointly represent the skills needed for such an ambitious project. This certainly includes a senior finance leader which is what we are currently searching for.

About the job
As Director of Business Control for Drei and Northvolts German operations you will be a critical member of the management team, and you will bring a finance perspective to the the full set of tasks, focusing on planning, execution and follow up.

The size of our current operation is still modest, with day-to-day accounting outsourced, and hence the recently kicked off investment project will be very much in focus. As the project and team expands, the Director of business control will take ownership of establishing local routines fulfilling reporting and accounting requirements, both from a local and from a group perspective. Over time you will build and develop the local finance team. In establishing the financing structure, you will work shoulder-to-shoulder with the Corporate finance function, and in many other areas you will work together with the Group Finance function who provide expertise in areas such as IFRS, treasury and tax.

Our organisational setup is matrix-like, and you will act both as the finance business partner to the Executive manager for Drei, and as extension of the central CFO-organisation.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the financial follow up of our investment project, which is both multi-year, and multi-billion USD
  • Keep a clear-eyed perspective on financing, spend, profitability & working capital to secure long-term value creation
  • Participate in reviewing and refining the business case as we progress in the overall strategy
  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders, both as part of commercial negotiations and in dialogue with government representatives for topics including grants and permitting
  • Contribute as a member of the senior management team covering all parts of Northvolts future operations in Germany
  • Be the point contact for Finance, and set up local routines, fulfilling both local and group requirements in accounting and reporting.

The person we are looking for is driven, caring and structured. You thrive in leading others, and dig-in where needed. You are used to, and enjoy, a high paced work environment.

About the company

Northvolt makes green batteries for a blue planet. Affordable cells and high-quality battery systems. All manufactured with a record-low carbon footprint. Purposely built to provide Europe with the opportunity to switch to renewable energy – efficiently and entirely.

To accomplish this, we do things differently. We design, manufacture, and recycle everything under one roof. We even build our own factories. All this is incredibly challenging and requires us to think in unconventional ways. We’re constantly experimenting, learning and adapting to make batteries so great – they will one day make oil history.

Northvolt is growing fast. We’re staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We're also hiring for our gigafactory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden. We want to work with smart individuals from all disciplines. Strong individuals that truly want to make a positive impact on the future. Those of us already on board share a passion for our mission. We’re prepared to work hard in pursuit of excellence. We enjoy the ride and our main drive is to make a difference for real. As a team, we’re dedicated to thinking new, working hard and having fun.
