Functional Safety Engineer
Northvolt is a European supplier of high-quality battery cells and systems, made in an environmentally sustainable way. The company was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest recycling capabilities.
In the plant located in Gdańsk we produce energy storage systems and battery modules that replace internal combustion engines in industrial machines. Currently Northvolt Poland is increasing its manufacturing capabilities by building a highly-automated, state-of-the-art production plant.
With our rapid expansion, we are looking for Functional Safety Engineer for our current facility.
Key responsibilities (but are not limited to):
- Support and follow-up on safety activities in specific projects.
- Support on creation and review functional safety related work products.
- Work on development and support on implementation of a safety culture that supports and encourages effective implementation of functional safety.
- Work on development and support on implementation of adequate organization specific processes to achieve functional safety.
- Continuous improvement of functional safety related skills, processes, methods, and tools.

Skills & Requirements
- Degree in Mechatronics / Electronic / Computer Engineering / Information Systems / Computing / Software Engineering or similar
- Passionate by solving complex problems with technology in a simple yet innovative way
- Self-motivated with a strong aptitude for problem-solving within projects

Excellent English written and oral communication skills

Excellent capacity to retain new things

Experience in a functional safety role would be a PLUS

Project Management skills would be a PLUS

Experience in design and development of products, with focus on safety critical systems in automotive or industrial would be a PLUS

Knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 would be a PLUS

Northvolt Ett is a next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, the gigafactory will be one of the largest battery cell factory in Europe and produce at least 32 GWh of capacity annually.
Alongside Northvolt Ett, Northvolt is also establishing a manufacturing site for battery systems in Gdansk, Poland. This facility, Northvolt Battery Systems Jeden, will industrialize and produce world leading battery systems in order to meet the increased demand for complete battery solutions on the European market. The factory is a highly automated, state-of-the-art production facility for battery modules and energy storage solutions.
We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a dynamic environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs in Västerås, as well as Northvolt Battery Systems Jeden, in Gdansk, for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå.
