Venture for Africa offers a 3-month immersion program designed to immerse top local and global talent in the African startup ecosystem.

We enable experienced talent who might be new to the startup space or the particular market they’re looking to enter, to soft-land and gain context while working with a startup or venture fund that's hiring.

  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, get plugged into the right networks, and get to understand market nuances.

  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startup while being paid a stipend.

  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup after the experience.


Startup Partner:SAVA

Sava's mission as a B2B fintech is simple: to give business owners access to the tools that they need to manage their finances, and additionally give them access to credit that allows them to grow and scale their businesses.

Engagement Description

Sava is looking to bring on a VFA fellow who will take on the role of a Director of Marketing to help them create the magic needed to build a strong brand identity and position Sava for a successful launch in South Africa and other markets.

Project Deliverables

  • Lead the marketing and PR efforts to create strong visibility in the market and drive traffic to the website and mobile applications.

  • Develop a marketing automation strategy, and continuously test and optimize workflows to hit ambitious KPIs.

  • Create new extraordinary ways of user acquisition and work to acquire our first 100, 1,000, and 10,000+ customers.

  • Develop a deep understanding of Sava's (prospective) users and their motivations.

  • Become an expert on Sava's customer acquisition channels, funnels and marketing stack.

  • Own the marketing budget, and allocate optimally across tools and channels.

  • Identify and prioritize growth experiments - e.g. optimize existing channels, and discover new ones.

  • Manage and continue to build out the growth/marketing team.

Skills & Requirements

  • Excitement to build out a marketing strategy and team from scratch, to deliver on key business goals.

  • A history of partnering directly with B2B marketing channels and inside sales teams.

  • Deep knowledge of audience segmentation, campaign development, list management and email marketing strategies.

  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to utilize data to identify action steps to drive key customer KPIs.

  • Cross-functional team player who can work across Sales Ops, BD/Sales/Partnerships, and Marketing teams.

  • Significant experience in marketing or user acquisition and growth experience proliferating consumer-facing digital products and services.

  • A passion for growth marketing and driving customer adoption.

  • Experience working in a start-up environment is desirable.
