As Regional Sales Manager- New Zealand you’ll be responsible for maximizing the sales potential within your designated area of responsibility by cultivating strong relationships with existing customers, driving brand awareness, and identifying new customer prospects across existing and new distribution networks. You will be required to be the face of the brand in your region and effectively represent the Hurtigruten brand to the travel industry and the public. Sales Managers strive for successful execution of their sales and marketing plan and achievement of the passenger/revenue objectives/goals.

The APAC head office is in Melbourne. This role is best placed in the sales territory of New Zealand with regular travel to Melbourne.

Skills & Requirements


  • Identify and set annual sales targets with key accounts; work with the Marketing Director on marketing plans/co-op spend to help achieve sales targets and seek every opportunity to maximize ROI against spend
  • Build and nurture territory and source market accounts and uncover new business development opportunities to meet profitability targets
  • Maintain effective strategic relationships with partners’ front line staff, executives, marketing and sales teams
  • Maintain and manage applicable sales agreements, including reporting, commissions, back-end incentives and marketing plans.
  • Set targets, develop, coordinate and implement annual sales/marketing plans with key accounts using a customized approach to address the specific needs of each partner.
  • Ensure ROI is monitored and maximized
  • Strengthen relationships and achieve growth with key preferred accounts through regular sales contact and informative updates with respect to their productivity and progress; offer sales assistance when appropriate.
  • Provide detailed in house and webinar product/sales trainings monthly
  • In cooperation with fellow sales team members, develop and implement an effective sales plan for training, educating and servicing all members of the partner organizations.
  • Co-organize and host client (consumer) presentations and product information sessions,
  • Escort familiarization trips for travel agents / media / partners as necessary
  • Provide strategic input and leadership to fellow peers within the sales team members
  • Ensure that marketing collateral is utilized to its full potential.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities through direct and trade channels.
  • Evaluate ROI of potential trade and consumer shows/events and participate where beneficial. Continually identify new shows/events that would be beneficial to the brand.
  • Stay abreast of competitor activities and general trends within the industry. Provide feedback to relevant team members.
  • Deliver an accurate weekly sales report
  • Actively seek, foster and close group business; coordinate with group sales manager & provide relevant assistance throughout the process
  • Manage T&E budget and co-op marketing funds in the most cost effective way, being mindful of established policies.
  • Other duties as required and assigned

What do you need to accomplish:

  • Build Hurtigruten to be and maintain the preferred supplier relationships and deliver an ROI equal to this status among trade partners on the destinations we sail.
  • Grow Hurtigruten reputation within the trade as the world leader in exploration travel.
  • Develop effective sales and channel strategies to drive and strengthen each step of the sales funnel based on insights and relationships in the distribution system.
  • Adapt, localize and implement Global Sales initiatives to ensure cost effectiveness and speed to market. Track and manage trade-related performance across traditional and non-traditional distribution.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Product functions and ensure overall strategies and tactical promotions are well understood and implemented.
  • Deliver results on trade and consumer sales strategies in partnership with Marketing, Inside Sales and Leadership team.

Academic and Professional Qualifications :

  • College Degree or job experience equivalent required,
  • 5+ years sales and customer service experience required,
  • 3+ years travel industry experience preferred

Additional Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Power Point), LCD/data projection, Internet and webinar applications, PowerBi and Sales Force.
  • Ability to make good use of web tools and in-house technical resources, adapt to new technology, learn new programs quickly, and use computers to improve productivity.
  • Able to deliver effective presentations to consumer and agents, engage as a credible trainer, and is an efficient communicator of the brands core sales messages -required
