We are looking for a driven Lead Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our Northvolt Systems Manufacturing Engineering team based in Stockholm, Sweden. By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing a world class Equipment Engineering team and contributing to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

About the job

The Lead Manufacturing Equipment Engineer will be an expert in developing and delivering manufacturing equipment from initial concept to serial production. You will play an important role to interface with equipment suppliers and to collaborate with Northvolt product, process, factory and other key stakeholder teams to efficiently integrate the technical and business requirements into equipment solutions.

About the team

You will be part of a team of 13+ equipment engineers from multiple countries and cultures all based in Stockholm. Our aim is to deliver high performing equipment in short timeframes to satisfy our growth ambitions. As a Lead engineer you will also support and guide a small project focused team, and support the wider group with your experience.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The end to end delivery of automated manufacturing production lines and equipment, from initial concept to prototyping and mass production

  • Ownership of the relationship with machine builders and system integrators

  • Responsible for functionality, stability, uptime of automated manufacturing equipment and lines

  • Identify, address, and resolve equipment and process concerns

  • Lead and coach a small team of equipment engineers to deliver manual, semi-automatic, and automated manufacturing equipment
  • Develop and review project planning documents such as project timelines, RFI/RFQs, FMEAs, Safety Risk Assessments, PM schedules, Requirements/Specifications, and Key Equipment Parameters

Skills & Requirements

_We believe that you have:_

  • Fluent English with strong communication skills
  • BSc or MSc degree in Engineering
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience within new equipment development
  • Experience with evolving products, processes, and equipment from prototype scales to production scale in a fast-growing environment
  • Good negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Has a can-do attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Leadership and influencing skills

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in the following fields:

    • Cylindrical and prismatic cell module and pack assembly

    • Laser sources, optical setups, laser process monitoring equipment

    • Dispensing systems for adhesives, sealants, thermal interface materials

    • Production line sensors including profilometers, vision systems

    • Electrical or battery testing systems

  • Fluency in other languages (Polish, Swedish, German, Chinese)
