Skills & Requirements

The Provision Master is one of the most exciting positions onboard any Hurtigruten Expedition vessel, responsible for the entire provision operation on board. Being in charge for all hotel-related purchases, the Provision Master is also accountable for inventories on board the vessel. To ensure that all department needs are reflected in purchase requests placed by the Provision Master, close communication with all departments on board as well as the Purchasing department ashore is of great importance for this position.

As sustainable cruise operation is particularly important to Hurtigruten Expeditions, the Provision Master is also closely involved in ensuring that the assigned vessel is supplied with regional products that meet the company’s quality standards. On top of that, the Provision Master needs to keep a close eye on the financial impacts of purchase requests and inventories.

This role is a hands-on role and requires someone who wants to be involved in the operation of a Hurtigruten Expedition vessel. At times, fast, but nevertheless, well thought out decisions need to be made to ensure that guest satisfaction is the top priority.

Main Key tasks for this Role:

  • Handles all working material and equipment with the necessary care and keeps it well cleaned.
  • Supporting the head office in reviewing all template orders.
  • Fully responsible in compiling the loading report and communicating it to all managers and head office.
  • Responsible for checking all quantities, quality and specifications after the loadings, in order to be confirmed in the system.
  • Arranging for all external transfers, including landing manifests, to be packed according to the manifest.
  • Conduct frequent inspections of highly perishable merchandise and seeks advice and support from the galley team if uncertain.
  • Picking POC by filling the orders from the Galley. All galley merchandise for the day is picked up in the morning. Reviewing requisitions before issuing.
  • Picking POC: Filling orders for the Restaurant. The order for the bar is filled later in the day when the bars open.
  • Overview requisition posting.
  • Fully responsible for the day-to-day operation in the storeroom including accuracy of inventories, appropriate FIFO rotation, vegetable/fruit sanitation practices, issuance and charges, cleanliness and Public Health standards are followed.
  • Ensures that subordinates follow their schedules and produce the required tasks as per their job descriptions on a daily basis.
  • On a daily basis, with the feedback of the Storekeeper, prepares the running low items report and provides them to the Executive Chef and F&B Manager.
  • Maintain and ensure that Public Health standards and regulations are followed upon at all times on board.
  • Review risk assessments for assigned area and ensure they are followed upon or amended if needed.
  • Ensure that all areas under responsibility were inspected for insect activity as per IPM plan.

Key Attributes:

  • English – Excellent skills written and oral (other language such as German, Norwegian are and additional benefit for this role.
