Job Description

In this exciting new role, our HR Manager will implement the regional HR strategy to support our rapid growth in the Japan region.

You will be a key member of the APAC HR team and will be focusing on strategic and operational people-focused initiatives. At Meltwater, we believe our people are essential to everything we do, and our global award winning culture proves it. We are looking for an accomplished HR professional who has a generalist background, and extensive understanding of Japanese HR legislation. You will quickly establish yourself as a trusted advisor to the business and senior level stakeholders.

This is a 12 month contract role based in our Tokyo office. The role will report to HR Director of APAC, based in Sydney, Australia. There may be a possibility to extend the contract subject to the organizational needs and personal performance.


  • Implement regional HR strategies and drive a range of people related local initiatives such as Wellness, DEI, CSR, Engagement, Hybrid Work, etc.

  • Drive employee relations and resolve any issues together with management in a professional manner with a high level of integrity and compliance to the company policies and values

  • Identify learning needs and translate them into L&D initiatives aligning with regional L&D framework, able to design and deliver workshops

  • Be the point of contact for all employees in Japan, support employees with benefit/policy/change questions and timely resolution of all employee issues

  • Assists in localizing company policies and procedures in Japan office, continuously educating employees and managers to ensure compliance and professionalism

  • Proactively identify improvement areas and consult management in the talent management and performance process

  • Conduct new employee orientations and exit interviews

  • HRIS and administration work for full employee cycle management

  • Liaise with payroll vendor and external parties to ensure the compliance and effectiveness of payroll and statutory employee benefits

  • Analyze trends and metrics to identify areas for improvement and changes

  • Participate and represent HR team in office meetings

  • Partner with APAC HR team on regional projects and other day to day tasks

Skills & Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in HR or similar discipline

  • 4-8 years experience as an HR Generalist/Advisor

  • Knowledge of full employment cycle management and contemporary business partnering methodologies

  • Thorough understanding of employment law and common practices in Japan, experience with employee relations

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build relationships across the organization and cater the communication style to different audiences

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Japanese and English

  • Proven time management and organizational skills

  • Strong business acumen

  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high pressure, and innovative organization

  • Ability to work well both independently and with the team

  • Previous experience working with SaaS sales teams (highly regarded)

  • Experience with Workday (highly regarded)
