Job Description

The HRBP, Japan (1 year contract) is a member of the APAC HR team and will be based in our Tokyo office. There is a possibility to extend the contract subject to the organizational needs and personal performance.

High level overview:

This role consists of 70% strategic business partnering and 30% HR operational work for the Japan office. It is a stand-alone HR role in the local office, with the strong support from the regional HR team.

This role allows the successful candidate to gain knowledge and understanding of full HR spectrums, and become a trusted advisor to the business management team in the local office. Reporting to the HR Director, APAC, you will be providing seamless and efficient HR operational services and professional guidance/advice to managers and employees in relation to the full employee lifecycle.

You are a passionate HR professional with 5-8 years of experience and a Bachelor degree. You are hard-working, solution-oriented and are naturally good at building relationships and communicating with a wide range of audiences. You are eager to learn and ready to take more responsibilities to partner with the business teams on a strategic level. The working languages are English and Japanese, so you must be fluent in written and verbal communication of both. Ideally, you have grown your HR knowledge and experiences in both mature global organizations and small-medium sized businesses, but this is not mandatory. You are expected to come with solid knowledge and understanding of local labor laws, regulations and common practices.

Reporting into: HR Director, APAC

Peering with: APAC HR team

Key stakeholders: VP of North Asia (English speaking), Japan AD, local management team

A Look Inside the Job:

  • Be the contact point for all employees, support employees with benefit/policy/change questions and timely resolution of all employee issues.

  • Create employment information, reports and presentations as required

  • Conduct new employee orientations and exit interviews

  • HRIS and administration work for full employee cycle management

  • Liaise with payroll vendor and external parties to ensure the compliance and effectiveness of payroll and statutory employee benefits

  • Assists in localizing company policies and procedures in Japan office, continuously educating employees and managers to ensure compliance and professionalism

  • Proactively identify improvement areas and consult management in the talent management and performance process

  • Drive employee relations process and resolve those issues together with management in a professional manner with a high level of integrity and compliance to the company policies and values

  • Implement regional strategies and drive a range of people related local initiatives such as Wellness, DEI, CSR, Engagement, Hybrid Work, etc.

  • Conduct regular meetings with managers in Tokyo office to build trustful relationship, credibility and provide expert HR consultancy and guidance when and where necessary

  • Identify learning needs and translate them into L&D initiatives aligning with regional L&D framework, able to design and deliver workshops

  • Analyze trends and metrics to identify areas for improvement and changes

  • Participate and represent HR team in office meetings

  • Partner with APAC HR team on regional projects and other day to day tasks

Skills & Requirements

What Will You Bring?

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in HR or similar discipline

  • 5-8 years’ experience as an HR Generalist/Advisor

  • Solid knowledge of full employment cycle management and contemporary business partnering methodologies

  • Solid knowledge of employment law and common practises in Japan, experience with employee relations is a must
