WHAT’S THE JOB LIKE?
Responsibilities
You work on the Oikotie native iOS app - the only real estate marketplace mobile app in Finland reaching 100.000 users on iOS & Android each month! Your time is split between leading the iOS development of the app, coaching two iOS developers in the team and hands-on programming. Architecturing the app, participating in the discovery work and finding the right way to split development work are a few of your nuts to crack.
When having your hands dirty, your focus is on keeping the app neat and creating exciting new features, and running optimization & performance analysis without forgetting publishing the result of your and team’s hard work on the AppStore! When designing new features, testability is always in your mind. Thus, you create unit and integration tests with code coverage. Furthermore, you play an active role in shaping the overall direction of the app from the very beginning of the design process. That being said, we encourage you to be creative and to experiment with new solutions with a pragmatic and committed mindset to code quality and maintainability.
Tech stack
Among the key technologies in use are Swift, Realm, MVVM-C, Moya, Code signing, Cocoapods, Firebase + SwiftUI and Combine. We encourage you to pick up other mobile development practices as well, your colleagues and raywenderlich.com are there for you!
Goals
During your first six months, we expect you to settle in our team & the community and start taking over your role. We’re about done and over with the refactoring of the Oikotie iOS app so you can focus on implementing new features together with the rest of the development team. Further down the road, approximately after 12 months, we’re eager to see you standing on your own (we’re here to have your back!). You contribute actively to brainstorming on new functionalities for the app (obviously!) and also for the Oikotie service in general. What would the most attractive real-estate and jobs marketplace be like? Hop along and let’s envision it together!
Not everything is sweet, so here’s the main opportunity to improve
You step in the very first Oikotie’s mobile developer role in Finland which means that the mobile team will be spread between two countries (Poland & Finland) for the very first time (we’re remote-savvy thanks to the virus starting with C!). Thus, there might be some surprises ahead and a ‘we’ll find a way’ mindset will surely be needed from you. On the other hand, the unknown offers an opportunity to leave your fingerprint on how our mobile team starts to form in Finland! Pretty exciting, huh?
Colleagues
102 members of our tech family are eagerly waiting for your arrival! You’ll be part of Oikotie’s cross-functional team that gathers together mobile & backend developers, UX designers, and business owners. Currently, your six other mobile colleagues are based in Poland and the rest of Oikotie’s tech team (not forgetting Tori’s mobile team!) are here in Finland to grab a coffee and a bun with you at our Helsinki office!
We work in a low hierarchy and our teams and cross-functional squads are self-steering and operate according to the OKRs (Objectives & Key Results). Developers are truly valued and have a lot of freedom in our community. Yevi’s, your supervisor’s, role is to help you with the (not so inspiring) administrative work and remove obstacles from your way. We trust that you know certainly better how to do your job as you’re the specialist of your own expertise area!
When getting to know us, you’ll notice quickly that we truly live and work based on our three key values: we win together when working on cross-functional teams around the OKRs , we encourage each other to be curious and actively develop ourselves for example with the help of LinkedIn Learning platform and Schibsted level training, and we are empowered to have courage to share ideas and challenge ourselves. If our way of working resonates with you, we believe that we are a dream workplace for you!
