Mechanical Design Engineer - Battery Systems

Do you have what it takes to enable the future of energy? Northvolt is right now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for Battery System Development to join our team. You will be given the opportunity to develop li-ion battery modules, packs and systems as well as being a part of building one of the first European large-scale lithium-ion battery factories.

We are searching for a mechanical design engineer with experience of developing li-ion battery modules and packs. You have preferably worked as a Battery Design Engineer within the automotive or similar industry. You have also a good understanding of production processes and have a proven record of taking part in the full development cycle of high energy li-ion battery packs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop the mechanical design of the Northvolt li-ion battery modules and packs
  • Perform safety analysis for the design together with the other technical domains in the team
  • Perform simulations and prepare testing need to verify and validate the design
  • Execute engineering tasks defined within projects in order to meet schedule, budget and specifications

Safety, energy density and total cost of ownership are key drivers for battery system development which should be mastered and understood. It is an advantage to be familiar with international standards and testing procedures commonly accepted in the li-ion battery industry.

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level
  • +4 years of mechanical design experience, where part of the experience is in the field of power electronics or high performance li-ion batteries
  • Strong Hands-On computer aided design skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, especially in the field of design for safety, production and serviceability
  • Experience working in international teams and with customers
  • Excellent English, written and oral skills
  • Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines, excellent time management
  • Experience from a start-up environment is a plus
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
