VG Video Team seeks JavaScript Developer
Do you want to join the team behind Norway's most playful streaming service - with half a million daily users, and help us become even better? VG’s video team is today responsible for the video experience across VG, with VGTV as the main distribution channel. We strive to bring the video experience on VG to the next level, and we need more smart people to join our team.
VG delivers news, but also TV, entertainment shows, sports, podcasts, apps, live broadcasts and so much more. Every day 2.5 million people visit VG for news coverage, 1 million video streams are started, and we strive to bring value to our 250k subscribers. On a normal day, VG is the most visited website in Norway, and when something important happens, it is the first place people go.
ABOUT THE TEAM
We cater for VGTV original shows, a library of over 400 documentaries, premium sport live streams and 24/7 news and sports coverage. We have recently expanded the platform to the Swedish giant Aftonbladet, and work together to create the video experience of the future!
We’re a growing cross-located team with product manager and designers located in Oslo, and with developers in Kraków.
The product is based in Oslo (for VG) and Stockholm (for Aftonbladet). We’re located in the city centre with offices in Akersgata, co-located with other developers, journalists, designers and data scientists in VG and Schibsted News Media.
We’re a user oriented team, and develop our services to meet expectations of our viewers and content creators.User research combined with data insights and business input decides what we should build.
As a member of the team, you will be part of a high speed, inclusive and fun environment where trust, openness, collaboration, and passion is key.
We are humble and care a lot about our craft, always helping each other to become better in what we do.
We test, we fail and learn together.
We encourage learning and facilitate for our team members to have 10% of their time to explore their own initiatives.
We work in 3 week sprints that we call “missions”, which gives us focus and autonomy to solve a defined problem. After the mission we have a detox week where we fix bugs and other things at hand.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The developers have recently rebuilt the video platform from the ground up, so you will come to a brand new and modern product that is carefully put together based on everything we have learned – successes and failures – from the last years to create a great product.
Our challenge is to continue on the great work and effort that has been put into the product and elevate it even further, to create a top tier video experience.
Previous work with video or video platforms is no requirement, but passion for online video is definitely something we are looking for.
