Northvolt has an exciting job offer for an Engineering Manager Slurry Mixing, Coating & Pressing to join our bold team in Västerås.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

About the job

The Engineering Manager will be in charge of a fast-growing team. As leader of the group, you will have the opportunity to build further on a competent and dependable team, capable to scale Northvolt’s operations in Sweden and beyond. You will be in charge of setting up and executing the longterm process strategy reporting to the Head of Production Technology.

The Engineering Manager participates in and drives projects, investigations and actions with the purpose to solve problems, decrease costs and increase efficiency & capacity in manufacturing. You will be participating in the implementation of new equipment and play an important role in solving equipment problems.

About the team

As the Production Technology Labs Team we are responsible for all engineering activities in Labs. That means solving complex engineering problems for running production as well as leading long term projects, e.g. integrating new equipment

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to) :

  • Analysing the cause and solve the problem through the overall process quality monitoring for the stabilization of the manufactured product
  • Understanding the battery process, material phenomena and fluid mechanics and based on this derive appropriate improvement actions
  • Responsible for managing engineers and vendors to design and deliver industrial process equipment achieving aggressive yield rate targets against tight deadlines optimizing following factors (Quality, Capacity / CAPEX, Cost of manufacturing, OEE)

  • Responsible to secure engineering team growth and competence development as well as long term employee development and employee satisfaction.

  • Secure and enable cross functional integration to relevant engineering teams to define interfaces for advanced real time monitoring, production control and optimization.

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have :

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in battery chemistry, material or chemical engineering and-or equivalent

  • Knowledge in mixing technologies of battery slurries, rheology and mechanical fundamentals

  • Ability to understand and manage Yield and OEE improvement work / cost reduction

  • Experience in process improvement / investment in new equipment / process monitoring / troubleshooting / on-site management support / participation in new projects, etc.

  • Competences in industrial methodologies such as value stream analysis, FMEA, design to cost etc.

  • At least 3 years experiences in managing engineers and large-scale projects in multi-cultural environment

  • Excellent English written and oral skill

  • Fluency in other languages like Korean/Japanese/Chinese is a plus
  • Experience from battery/food/chemical industry is highly beneficial
