About the team

Our Detection and Response R&D group builds technologies for endpoint detection and continuous response against the most advanced cyber-attacks out there. The Portals team is composed of software and quality engineers developing and maintaining high performant, data intensive web applications that are directly helping in the fight against cyber breaches.

The Portals team works with our technical product managers, and alongside Backends, Sensors, and Response teams to deliver front-end for our detection and response platform.

Our team is distributed across two different locations - United Kingdom and Poland. Being a distributed team means a lot of flexibility, autonomy, and trust. We put additional effort in ensuring we communicate well and truly operate like a team.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Architect to join our team to provide architecture direction in order to keep our web applications scalable, secure, performant, and easy to maintain. This work requires an iterative mindset to work and plan incrementally towards a desired end-state. Balancing short-term gains and long-term goals is essential.

This role also requires coaching, leadership, and excellent stakeholder communications. You need to make sure that stakeholder needs are always taken into account and the team buys into and understands the design consistently. In this role, you will coach the team on how to build better software.

This is a full-time permanent role based in the UK, Poland or Finland.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing technical architecture direction to the Portals team.
• Maintaining architecture documentation.
• Analyzing, architecting and designing towards the desired end-state through increments, with the ability to evaluate tradeoffs between alternative paths towards the ideal end-state as well as balancing short-term and long-term goals of the company.
• Acting as a tech lead for some of the initiatives. Hands-on implementation of the front-end solutions in collaboration with other team members.
• Debugging complex problems across an entire stack and creating solutions, detailed code implementation when needed.
• Working with multiple stakeholders to define and align our Portals architecture with other platforms, services, and teams.
• Working with the R&D Lead Architect to ensure the software architecture aligns with the overall solution architecture direction.
• Acting as key point of contact for all front-end architectural activities. Participating in cross-team architecture forums.
• Leading and mentoring software engineers in the team about architectural design and software development best practices.
• Writing, updating, and using documentation.

Your day

While the team is distributed across multiple locations, communication is very important. You will spend a lot of time in team chat channels, as well as have daily standups via video calls. A few other team-wide meetings happen every week.

You will work closely with our Tech, SRE and QE leads to ensure high quality and timely delivery by the team. You will have an opportunity to provide input into our development roadmaps and drive technical architecture decisions to ensure scalability and performance of our applications. You will regularly interact with other architects and tech leads from multiple teams on cross-team dependencies.

You might be a good fit if:

• You have experience developing and operating web applications (Vue.js) in production
• You have experience in translating business requirements & UX designs into systems architecture
• You have experience in designing, documenting, facilitating, and communicating architecture choices.
• You have built software in cloud native environments (AWS) and ran cloud native systems.
• You express yourself concisely, whilst capturing the essential and relevant elements, also for non-technical stakeholders.
• You have a sense of urgency and getting things done attitude.
• You communicate well in English both verbally and in writing
• You love to mentor and model standard methodologies for coding, testing, code review, documentation, debugging, and troubleshooting
• Cyber security field excites you, and you want to help protect organizations, society and people from real-world attacks

Qualifications

Our team members are all familiar, skilled, and/or experienced in some of the following:

• Vue.js
• Node.js
• Falcon or other Python web frameworks
• GraphQL, RESTful APIs
• JEST, Pytest, Cypress testing frameworks
• Docker, Jenkins
• AWS cloud infrastructure
• Javascript and Python
• Software development practices, Git, continuous integration and delivery
