We are looking for an experienced Design Manager Instrumentation & Control system (I&C) to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our passionate Construction team based in Skellefteå. In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

About the job
The Instrumentation and Control System Design Manager shall enable the design and engineering of the Instrumentation and Control Systems for the Northvolt Ett facility. This role has the key responsibility for design coordination, design reviews and as-building of the factory’s instrumentation and control systems.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that safety is implemented both in design and installation on the Construction Site and Factory design which is an absolute and unnegotiable priority for Northvolt.
  • Responsible for execution of the Northvolt design, installation, and commissioning for Instrumentation & Control Systems (I&CS), in accordance with the Northvolt requirements:
  • Responsible for the design and engineering coordination of the I&C control systems and instrumentation on the Northvolt Ett facility.
  • Preparing the project design phase execution plan complete with project time schedule.
  • Interfacing with all internal Northvolt stakeholders to gather the relevant user requirement specifications and provision of same to the external design consultants in line with the project time schedule.
  • Engaging the external design consultants, including the preparation of the scope of work.
  • Managing the external design consultants to ensure that they are delivering in accordance with the agreed contract, the Northvolt technical requirements and the required quality.
  • Tracking delivery status of engineering deliverables and packages, proactively identifying threats to the delivery, and proposing and/or implementing mitigating actions together with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring timely responses to queries and requests from contractors (RFIs, RFCOs, CO’s, NCR’s, constructability clashes) to support the Northvolt project timeline.
  • Managing design changes throughout the different design and installation phases and the impact of same on the construction activities during the Execution stage.

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have:

  • Bachelors or Master’s in Instrumentation, Instrumentation and Control or Electrical engineering specialising in instrumentation and control.
  • Chartered or Professional Engineer in the Instrumentation or Electrical engineering fields is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the design/engineering of heavy industrial, manufacturing, or process facilities. Battery factory experience is ideal, but not required. Other facility types that are seen as relevant and welcome include: pharmaceutical, data centers, oil & gas, automotive, food & beverage manufacturing, etc.
  • Have experience in multi-disciplinary engineering coordination, interfacing with construction and internal/external stakeholders
  • Experience working on international industrial projects and in multi-cultural environments.
  • Experience in installation and commissioning, along with start-up of industrial facilities.
  • Great English written and oral skills, Swedish or other languages is a plus
  • Computer literacy (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project).
